Hi I have had my computer for over 5 years now and am wondering if an upgrade is required or maybe just a better graphics card. My spec is this: Intel Core i7-7700 CPU @ 3.60GHz Quad Core (Not Windows 11 compatible) Windows 10 Pro 64 bit NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1650 4GB GDDR5 16GB RAM Benq Monitor 1920 x 1080 60Hz If any more info is needed I'll try and find out. I'm not an expert on PC spec but am I right in saying that the graphics card is the biggest problem here? It seems that an old card such as a GTX 1070ti is much better than my 1650 and can be picked up quite cheap. Is it worth me upgrading the card to something like this or are other parts of the computer holding it back too? I am struggling to get TSW4 to run well enough, 30 FPS is the best I get on about 150% screen percentage. I'm struggling with the lighting too so might start looking at the lighting mod but not sure if my current set up will allow much improvement. Any help much appreciated!
I would not go 1000 series nvidia (its too old now) go for something in the 2000 or 3000 series, your CPU is showing it age but if it gets the job done its good enough, if I were you and I was in a similar situation but am running an i7-8700 and had a gtx 1080 I ended upgrading my 1080 to a 3070 and had planned on getting a new i5 CPU as they have become quite powerful am also considering a CPU from ryzen. Also make sure you power supply is powerful enough for your new gpu. another option (if you have not already) is to lower your graphic settings.
I would start with a 4070 or 4060 TI and 16 GB Ram more. you current configuration is way too short for the game IMO
I have an I7 4770 and GTX1650 and TSW runs well enough. Ultimately TSW is a poorly optimised game hence why it runs badly on consoles with standardised hardware like the PS5. I do know my PC needs a significant upgrade or even replacement in order to run Win 11 when the crunch comes a year in October.
My advice.... A new GPU! And maybe a better and faster RAM 32GB... I have a 4070TI and it works bizar good. My advice is not to spend money on youre CPU... A I7 7700 is a nice model. And a new monitor is a nice addition. I have a 1440p 32inch monitor.
Thanks for all the replies. Budget will ultimately dictate what I can get. I can get the following card new for £230, assuming my power supply is enough (not sure what I need), is this a good option? Can't go over that figure. MSI GeForce RTX 3060 VENTUS 2X 12G OC Gaming Graphics Card - 12GB GDDR6, 1807 MHz, PCI Express Gen 4, 192-bit, 3x DP (v1.4), HDMI 2.1 (Supports 4K)
It should be OK for TSW, but a bit at the low end. Given your PC is not Windows 11 compatible, don't invest in it. Get a new one next year if you can afford. You may try to upgrade using the tricks for unsupported upgrades, but I have some doubts. I heard Microsoft made it far more difficult revcently by imposing additional requirements.
I've looked at a cheaper upgrade option by getting a second hand RTX 2060s 8GB. The problem is having taken the sides off the computer I still don't know what the power supply wattage is. There is no visible sticker so if there is one it would require dismantling to get to it. Also the only spare power connector I can see is a 6 pin and all these cards seem to need 8 pin. Does a 6 to 8 pin adapter work? The GTX 1650 has no separate power supply. A new PC isn't an option currently on cost grounds. TSW should still work I would think even when the Windows 10 support ends next year? If the upgrade option isn't on I'll probably have to make the best of what I have until a new PC becomes an option.
I decided to unscrew the power supply and found the sticker. The output is 600W so plenty for any of the cards I was considering. So really it comes down to whether I can use the 6 pin power connector via an adapter to connect to a better card. The PC seems to be a fairly decent spec still given its age so unless TSW stopped working next October, I think it should see me through for a couple of more years if I can upgrade the GPU.
The wildcard will be what DTG’s stance will be on continuing to support TSW within an unsupported operating system come next October. They haven’t made any announcement as yet, same goes for other game companies of course.
Why if you needed better quality? If y'oure PC is good enough please do it it will bring so much better quality. But in this case his pc is not strong enough
I've tried lower screen percentages but the image quality is very poor. I can currently get around 30fps which I can live with on decent settings. Aiming to get a higher fps on higher settings still on more recent routes.
