The Peninsula Corridor: San Francisco – Gilroy route is an extension to the popular San Francisco – San Jose route, and includes the full length of Caltrain’s dynamic San Francisco – Gilroy commuter operation (77 miles), plus additional Union Pacific freight trackage that extends the total length of the California route to more than 90 miles! Along Caltrain’s 77 route miles there are 32 station stops stretching from San Francisco’s busy 4th and King Street Station to San Jose’s stylish Diridon Station to Gilroy. Six new stations are included in the extension: Tamien, Capitol, Gilroy, Morgan Hill, San Martin, and Blossom Hill. The route also includes Caltrain’s modern Central Equipment & Maintenance Facility at San Jose and lay-over commuter yards at Gilroy and Tamien. F40PH-2C 920-922: CabView: Cab Car: CabView:
The only thing you add by adding Gilroy is 3 daily round trip trains, and whatever UP still runs out there (Which isnt much)
Yeah it honestly wouldn’t add much to the route. Just a couple longer services. I believe it’s also slower than SF-SJ. Some have told me trains go 79, but I believe it’s 50 irl. Could be wrong
I think there are still areas of 79 out there, based on what I've seen with the Coast Starlight. Gilroy itself however is like 10-15 though.
Not only that but the route has gone through a ton of changes. It’s not just as simple as adding catenary and calling it a day. Various stations have been overhauled on the route. The most notable one being Hillsdale which recently got elevated similar to San Bruno. There are some other changes but I can’t think of them off of the top of my head. I believe I also heard somewhere that San Mateo was going to become elevated and grade separated
For UP, a GP60 would be great for freight services. A Genset Switcher or one of UP's Tier 4 rebuilt GP38-2s (can't remember what the designation is) could also be great additions.
Here is the designation for GP38-2 Tier 4 If made both will layer to Cane Creek and Sherman Hill routes.
It's been suggested before, but I will do it again. Perhaps we could see DTG make the SP version of the Peninsula Corridor. The SP version of the route could include an SP SD7 or SD9, F7(or FP7) A and B, GP9 Torpedo, and/or FM H-24-66 Trainmaster (especially the FM Trainmaster) in both Black Widow and Bloody Nose liveries. DLCs could give us an SP War Baby GS4 or SDP45. The route would also include SP bi-level commuter coaches, a selection of freight cars (PFE reefers, box cars, flat cars with different loads, etc.), and an SP caboose or two.
Also it's only being electrified to San Jose, which granted that doesn't stop them from doing Gilroy. But it does beg the question, why put in the effort to do all that new trackage when it won't even be usable with (presumably) the main reason for the new version of the route in the first place? It would just make more sense to do what Rivet did with the Island Line, just upgrade the existing route and leave it at that.
Peninsula Corrider has been taken off sales due to Caltrain licensing expiration So there's no need to revive it back again
Well I mean if you own tsw5 Peninsula corridor route, you will still have it, I did buy the route add on before I heard the news of expiring date of caltrain
The big question is if we can use it on TSW6, if comes out, if not i save TSW5 on external memory for when i want to play this route
I’m rather disappointed that Dovetail Games has discontinued all Virgin Trains and Caltrain related DLC for Train Simulator Classic 2024. I managed to get the San Francisco - San Jose route, but I never got the chance to get the San Francisco - Gilroy route and both scenario packs for that route. I also completely missed out on all Virgin Trains related DLC. If Dovetail Games ever gets the proper licensing back, instead of making it permanent on the Steam Store, which is where I normally get all of my DLC for Train Simulator Classic 2024, they should only make those pieces of DLC available annually only for a limited time.
