Having come back to my favourite game last week for the first time since early December and buying both Birmingham and Bremen , which I like a lot it must (yes it really must) be said , it seems to me that the performance is not up to scratch with more lag (look I’m old but I think that’s what it’s called when the screen stops for a split second ) than previously and only slightly better than it was on TSW2 on my old PS4
Is my old memory playing tricks on me ? Was TSW3 better performance wise pre December or is it that some DLC are not as responsive than others ?

Stutters. Tsw3 routes tend to have more stutters compared to legacy routes.

Any route branded with TSW3 will suffer terrible stuttering. You either try to ignore it or (as I did), uninstall.

This or play TSW 3 on PC.
I'm usually playing on a PS4 Pro, but TSW 3 was so cheap in Humble Bundle, so I bought it. Playing on medium settings (effects and sky on high) and 1080P. And visuals and performance are so much better than on PS4 Pro in 4K mode. I can't believe it. Never thought, that my PC would run TSW at all, because I didn't build my PC for gaming:
    Ryzen 3 2200G
For TSW3 i installed my ten-year old NVIDIA GTX 760 with 2GB RAM.
    16 GB RAM

And yes, it has stutters, but nothing compared to PS4 Pro. And the textures, e.g. the ballast, are much crisper.

On PS4 I tend to focus more on custom scenarios rather than timetable mode. That improves performance while allowing for creativity and repeat playability.

Xbox and PC are holding PS5 back. They should ditch those platforms >sarcasm<

Hopefully the upcoming Ps5 Pro will negate most if not all of the current TSW deficit between PS5 and Series X.
Obviously even future consoles will not be able to touch a strong PC, but it’s all relative, and consoles remain by far the best bang for the buck.

I ran benchmarks with SEHS with all DLC loaded on Series X and PS5 last week.

There is a big difference between them on this route.
Series X is almost locked at 60fps with the odd drop to 55 or 50 fps.

PS5 averages 45 to 50fps. It hits 60fps at time but also lows of 25fps recorded. There is also stuttering and ms lag that Series X does not have.

Considering PS5 is slightly outperforming Series X on most titles released over the past year, something is up with how TSW is optimised on PS5. The consoles should generally be on par with each other in real world conditions despite the actual spec list between the two.

Been preaching the same for months when I had both. The consoles need TSW performance optimisation especially the PS5. Try also timing the loading of the game with similar levels of DLC installed on each console. You”ll find the PS5 takes way longer than the Xbox, no idea why.

When people say ‘the game needs optimising’, what exactly is it you’re expecting to happen?

You understand that ‘optimising’ likely means ‘making worse’ right?

No it doesn't. TSW2 routes mostly run smooth In TSW3. But it took them years to fix most of them. The problem is the speed at what routes need to be delivered. Every time they release a route they should in theory hire new people to fix the route as the pile of fixes keeps growing. To me that does not look as a sustainable way to sell products.

If the PS5 version was to be optimised 100% to the console, which of course would never happen.
Theyvwoukd use the cracked file compression that PS5 supports, Xbox does not. This would reduce file and installation sizes considerably.

They would also fully utilise the speed of the PS5 ssd from streaming content. Again, it supports much faster speeds and bandwidth than series X.

But all this would make the game coding structure far too different from other platforms.

Optimising does not necessarily make a game look worse to run better. That is called compromising.

As DTG have said many times. They are more familiar and comfortable working on the Xbox platform than PlayStation.

And still the game is unplayable on Xbox because of the horrendous audio issues

Optimising in the sense of using the PS5 hardware and software features to improve the player experience. In addition, using dynamic resolution scaling and/or checkerboard rendering where necessary to maintain 60 fps like other developers do. Not dialling back TSW settings per se. Fitz sums up well the hardware challenges DTW face, and probably why they didn’t bother, beyond changing some resolution and lod settings from the base PS4 configuration.

It's all well and good being more familiar on one platform than another but if they're going to sell the game on PlayStation then they need to learn that platform as well as they know Xbox so that the product runs to the best performance it possibly can. DTG should really be looking at using the exclusive features of each platform to maximise performance on each one. I know this causes more work but it can only be a good thing for the end product's reputation.

If this is proving difficult, maybe Focus could provide them with the resource to properly optimise the game on PS5?

As someone who generally prefers console gaming, I really wanted to drop PC and play TSW3 exclusively on PS5 but the game's inconsistent, stuttering performance put me off it.

I'm pretty sure that there is minimal optimisation done for Series X and PS5, using a different config file for those consoles doesn't change much at the core of the program that probably still has a 7 year old code base. Switching UE version doesn't make it automaticly run better (or naming it TSW, TSW2, TSW3)

The PS has also audio issues (bad looping), but less bad as on Xbox…

Until now on PS5 I only really stumbled on this with LGV. Most other routes I played do sound rather normal. Not saying it's Dolby Atmos but on Xbox every route I played sounded like it had bad looping.

sorry I missed the discussion, but I experienced stutter and lag when playing TSW3 on PS5, especially when approaching a station or entering a screen with lots of buildings. is it because i have too much dlc? if I delete some dlc will it improve the condition. because I don't think I experienced it when there used to be a 60 giga dlc limit

Thank you very much.. please i need the answer before i delete some of my dlc

Don't worry, TSW4 won't have stutters since I didn't hear them announce stutters on the announcement after all. :)

    It's an assumed core feature.
