I had a suggestion regarding possible steam updates or older historic eras where most freight was done through the railways (big 4, BR era etc) and wanted to suggest pick up and drop off goods trains! I feel like it would fit a steam era better perhaps but it would be interesting to have to shunt trains about and drop certain wagons (maybe with seperate liveries for different goods?) at different stations etc or to run mixed rake trains with CCTs or something along with coach and passenger stock which was done on the old railways! I say older railways where more stations would've have had their own goods facilities maybe it could be done as seperate shunting services (using a yard shunter) and then actual goods haulage trains or possibly both? It was just a really interesting dynamic that we lost with the continued expansion to the roads and to lorrying and haulage I know there are shunting maneuvers and services but I'm not sure if anything exists in the game currently to that specific level?
