Hi everyone, I would like to suggest another heritage railway to add to TSW4. The railway in question is the North Yorkshire Moors Railway. The North Yorkshire Moors Railway (NYMR) is a single track, 18 mile line that stretches from Pickering to Grosmont. The line has four stations (Pickering, Levisham, Goathland and Grosmont) and one halt (Newtondale). The railway also runs services to Whitby (24 miles from Pickering). Map of the line: Why the North Yorkshire Moors Railway? The NYMR is a popular and well known heritage railway and I think having the route in the game will be a brilliant addition. The railway runs through the stunning scenery of the North York Moors and has featured in many movies and TV series such as Heartbeat, Harry Potter (for which Goathland station was used as Hogsmeade) and most recently, Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny and Mission Impossible: Dead Reckoning. Operations The railway runs on three different timetables throughout the operating season: Gold, Silver and Bronze. The Pullman dining service, known as the Moorlander, operates one round trip from Grosmont - Pickering and back on Thursdays to Sundays. Trains are normally 6 coaches long (excluding the loco). There are run-round facilities at Pickering, Grosmont and Whitby stations. Gold: 17 trains, 10 Whitby services. Silver: 12 trains, 2 Whitby services Bronze: 13 trains, 8 Whitby services The NYMR fleet: The NYMR uses different steam and diesel locomotives to haul services with a variety of coaches including BR Mk1s in BR maroon and Crimson & Cream (which are already in game), LNER Gresley teaks and Mk1 Pullman coaches. The railway also operates a freight train and shuttle services on special events such as the Annual Steam Gala. They have 28 locomotives in total and normally use 4-6 a day depending on the timetable. The current operational NYMR home fleet includes: Steam: Black Fives 5428 Eric Treacy and 44806 Schools Class 4-4-0 Repton 9F 2-10-0 92134 J27 0-6-0 2392 Lambton Tank 0-6-2T 29 BR Standard 4 tank 80136 0-4-0VBT 8 Lucie All the steam locos currently face tender/bunker first towards Whitby. Diesel: Class 04 D2207 Class 08 08850 Class 11 12139 Class 25 D7628 Sybilla Class 31 31128 Charybdis (on loan) Class 31 31466 Class 37/0 37264 Class 47 47077 North Star (on loan) Class 101 DMU Currently, only 926, 5428, D7628 and 31128 are available for Whitby trains as they are mainline certified. The railway also has: Standard 4 2-6-0 76079 West Country 4-6-2 34101 Hartland WD 2-10-0 3672 Dame Vera Lynn Q6 63395 Class 24 D5061 and others. The national network meets up with the NYMR at Grosmont via platform 1. Northern Rail currently operates the services on the line using a pair of Class 156s but Class 150s and 158s have also been used on the line. The route in game Most routes on TSW4 come with 2-3 locos as standard plus add-ons. As the NYMR uses at least 5-6 locos depending on the timetable, The route should come with at least 4-5 locos as standard with the option for more as add-ons. I initially wanted the locos in the game to be steam but I think diesels are the more realistic option as the classes the NYMR actually have are already in game. The locomotives that a strong contender for the route are: Class 08 08850 Class 08 08495 Class '11' 12139 Class 31/0 31128 Charybdis Class 31/0 31466 Class 37/0 37264 Class 47/0 47077 North Star Class 101 DMU BR Green + SYP The 31s and the 37 will require new "models". 37264 doesn't have a high intensity headlight (the one in he game does) and the 31s do have one fitted (the game doesn't). Of the locos, only 31128 is fully mainline certified and can haul trains to Whitby. I would also like to see these in game: LMS Black 5 5428 Eric Treacy LMS Black 5 44806 Class 25 D7628 Sybilla Standard 9F 92134 Standard 4 tank 80136 Schools 926 Repton As Grosmont platform 1 is used for Northern Rail services to/from Whitby, a pair of Class 156s could be done as AI traffic. But as 156s aren't in the game already, Class 150s and Class 158s would do. Training Normally, introductions to loco take place in the training centre. However, it would be better if the introductions took place at the MPD in Grosmont. Class 08 Introduction Class 31 Introduction Class 37 Introduction Class 47 Introduction Class 101 Introduction Scenarios: I propose a range of different scenarios for the route: Yorkshire Diesel: Take a diesel hauled train from Pickering to Grosmont. Then prepare the train for the journey back. The Moorlander: Drive a diesel loco hauling 'The Moorlander' Pullman dining service from Grosmont platform 4 to Pickering, run round the train and couple up to the other end ready to take the train back to Grosmont. Seaside Excursion: Drive 31128 from Pickering to Whitby. Loco Swap: A train has just come in to Grosmont from Pickering and the locos needs changing before it can continue to Whitby. Wait for the loco to come off the train, then drive 31128 to the coaches and prepare the train for the journey to Whitby. After arriving, run round the train and take it back to Grosmont. Then take the 31 off and another loco will take the train to back to Pickering. First train of the day: Drive a diesel from Newbridge to the carriage shed at Pickering, pick up the coaches and take them to the station. Run round and prepare the train for the journey to Grosmont. Timetable: As mentioned before, the NYMR runs on 3 different timetables. The best one to use would be the Gold timetable as there are more trains. However, the Gold timetable requires 5-6 locomotives and most routes come with 2 or 3 locos. That said, the Silver timetable would be better to do as it requires less locos but there is only one train to/from Whitby. Also, the NYMR publishes a loco roster every day during the operating season, which can be viewed on their website. I've attached an example from 2022.
Apparently, the license for the NYMR is a pain to get so which explains why on TS, the NYMR is known as the "Pickering to Grosmont Heritage Railway" or something like that, so getting the NYMR in TSW is highly unlikely
