One of the strange 'cures' for too much beer was raw eggs! So its good that the railways provided a service to transport eggs by the vanload. Here are 2 wagons that were used for this transportation: Express Dairy Company: English Eggs
Grateful thanks to Spikeyorks for his amazing Tees Valley mods. Here is another (poor quality - I must get that sorted) video of a new scenario entitled: 'No lack at Lackenby - Part 1'
Thanks for the thumbs up Dave. Actually you're going to shame me if you end up releasing a scenario before I do. (After all I did have a huge head start over you). I have 10 scenarios ready that just need tidying up and livery lists produced for. Somehow I think the latter is going to be the bit that gives me the biggest headache !!!
Banana Vans next. The railways supplied specific vans for the transit of bananas; along with Private Owner vans such as 'Fyffes'
The Big 4 also ran Ventilated and Refrigerated Vans. Refrigerated Vans had special areas for ice to be carried during transit - some even having facilities for Dry Ice! LMS Refrigerator Van GWR Ventilated Van
A diversion into more modern wagons - ICI Anhydrous Ammonia Tankers. This toxic, and dangerous liquid was transported in these distinctively liveried wagons. 4 variants with 4 levels of dirt. STS 78658
Next to come will be a little excursion away from wagons and back to my favourites - locomotives. The theme is Scotland and there will be examples of 1980s versions of Scottish Class 08s, 20s, 37s and 47s. The overriding connection will be the inclusion of the 4 main Scottish Depot emblems, some of which I have already produced for earlier locos. So there will be Eastfield Westies; Haymarket Castles; Inverness Stags and Motherwell Salmon. I've yet to attempt the Westie (Scotty Dog), so they may be a while. Up first, and going online tonight are a few examples of Haymarket (HA), Edinburgh's shunters...
The first 3 shunters loaded up were all based at Haymarket, 08720 and 08730 in two guises. 08720 in Provincial livery
Haymarket also added the Castle emblem to some of their ScotRail liveried Class 47s. 47713 received the emblem before it was even named!
That completes the Haymarket Castle emblem locos for the moment. Next up are the Motherwell Salmon emblem locos. I've previously uploaded several Class 37/3s with this emblem, but attention is turned to Class 20s and 08s. 20020 is now preserved and sports the Salmon in preservation. 20020 / 20124
A bit more Salmon... 08733. Notice the rear axle is a different colour to the other 2. This is based on a photo of the loco and would indicate a change of the rear wheelset, probably performed at the home depot. The donor loco obviously had red axles and con-rods.
08736. This shunter was withdrawn by BR in October 1987 and bought by a local company - Deanside Transit - who removed the BR arrows and added their own name. The font looks suspiciously like BR-style though...
That concludes my selection of Motherwell 'Leaping Salmon' locos. What is next, you may ask? Not long to find out... or IS there...
No, there IS'nt. The next Scottish depot emblem is Inverness TMD's 'Stag'. Available in 2 forms, as far as I can find, the white version only appeared on one loco - 08621. Unless you know different! The more common version was the 'Highland Rail' version, complete with black stag on a yellow square background with the 'Highland Rail' label.
37/4s were allocated to IS, and all received the IS Stag. Only a couple received nameplates, which seems odd as both ED and CF liked to name theirs (although some of theirs were missed out too) 37414
Turning to the Class 47s, and 47118 is the first up. This loco was unusual in running around in Large Logo with a Blue roof - not unique, but unusual. However, it appears to have started out with a dark grey roof, which was common for a lot of IS locos of this time period.
47460 in 1985 BR Blue. Answering my own question above, the white Stag did make it onto more than one loco!
47461 'Charles Rennie Mackintosh' in 1986 ScotRail with Blue Stripe. The Blue Stripe version was applied to the 47/7s and just this one 47/4. All other ScotRail 47/4s received the InterCity Red Stripe livery but with ScotRail lettering, as will be seen on 47492, coming soon. Notice the white Stag makes a comeback on the ScotRail livery.
Whenever someone says: "All diesels look the same", I'm reminded of what I do on here! Here are yet again variations on a theme! This time 47470,then 47492 and 47546 in 2 livery variations each. 47470 'University of Edinburgh' in a small logo livery with yellow cabs!
47492 'The Enterprising Scot' in ScotRail Red Stripe with bodyside 'Highland Rail' Stag emblem as running in 1986
