I can confirm I am also unable to PIE with the TSW5 editor. Every time I try there is the usual initial delay and then, when I would normally expect to start playing, the screen shifts to a location near the origin of my route and the editor crashes. This is with a very simple timetable. Going back to the TSW4 editor for the time being. NOW FIXED by tweaking Avast Anti Virus see post #11 below
Same here. I tried once with a scenario that has worked many times before in the old editor and it crashed while loading.. Then I uninstalled and reinstalled the editor, reloaded my content and then tried PIE without setting a scenario (- which should just spawn character on foot in the current camera location.) This also crashed the Editor.
You cannot have TSW5 installed with the TSW4 Editor. You'll need to either uninstall TSW5 or install the TSW5 Editor.
Thanks for your suggestion. Yesterday I installed TSW5 (in Steam) alongside my copy of TSW4.I didn't want to delete TSW4 until I knew the new game was working as reinstalling it is a 5 hour job.. I then downloaded the TSW5 editor from Epic Games store and have that in my Unreal library alongside the old TSW4 Editor. Are you saying that I can't have both editors installed in my Epic Games library?
I tried completely uninstalling the TSW4 DLCs to see if that would help and now I can’t PIE using either editor although they both have access to the TSW5 game content. Edit: Also removed the old editor and PIE still crashing the TSW5 editor.. I consistently get a second or two glimpse of a station at the very centre of the route followed by a crash.
This seems to have resolved itself for me following several false starts. I uninstalled the TSW4 editor this morning - unfortunately forgetting to do a back up of my route first ! - don't try this at home. I ran a recovery program which salvaged some of the files but I had a full back up from May 2024 so I haven't lost much (apart from my Landscape material) as I have been busy making a loco and haven't changed much on the route. Just now I ran the TSW5 editor again and loaded the Peak Forest level. I the tried PIE (current camera location) and it finally worked and I was able to walk around in the level. Since then I have reloaded my back up and PIE now works with my own scenarios. I can't explain why it is now working but did have two "interesting" developments. 1. Whenever I started the Editor I was getting two Blueprint Compilation errors both relating to the Landscape Tutorial mode. I did edit the first of these by deleting the problem nodes and recompiling/ saving before running PIE. 2. While I was doing this (and again after closing PIE) I had separate error messages from my Anti Virus saying that the editor was trying to contact external websites (one of which ended in ......amazon.aws ! ). I blocked these attempts and they haven't cropped up since.
Tried PIE from current camera locations in 3 other routes and always the same crash report. I wondered if my Timetable was somehow corrupt so made a very basic fresh one and assiigned it to PIE TT but no joy unfortunately. The message is consistent.... Unhandled Exception: EXCEPTION_ACCESS_VIOLATION reading address 0x00007ff800000043 I don't know what to try next and would appreciate some response from the DTG team.
What worked for me was to start the game itself first and then restart the TSW4 PC Editor. After that PIE worked again.
Finally got Play In Editor working with TSW5 editor. Disabling Avast Anti-Virus Shields temporarily seems to have solved the problem and strangely now I have turned them back on it's still working absolutely fine !!!? Daunfr59 thank you for pointing me in the right direction. Edit: Just to add that turning off silent mode in Avast Anti Virus allowed me to see that Avast was blocking a process in the editor which resulted in the crashes. Giving permission for the editor via Avast has completely solved this one.
