I currently run TSW2 on my PS4 and I’m looking at upgrading to the PS5 to play TSW3. My question is, is it worth the upgrade and if so what are the benefits if any?

No, not really to be honest, if this is the only game you're doing it for I personally wouldn't do it. I'm not a big fan of TSW3 menu layout, there are massive problems with DLC allocation space, so if you own a lot of DLC odds are you won't get it all on your PS5, you are limited to 62GB of DLC content, I have had to delete all of my none UK routes to be able to use all my UK routes, I still do not own the update to Isle of Wight, Glasgow - Edinburgh route or the Birmingham cross city routes and I only have the room to fit one of these three to my DLC. You will also lose all of your experience and will need to start all of your routes again, oddly though you get to keep the mastery you've already done (I have no idea how that works). I bought my PS5 because I wanted to add Gran Turismo 7 and added TSW3 as I coud do so also, had so many problems with sorting out the DLC, had to delete it all and start with all the British routes I wanted first then all the add on DLC trains. but read what everyone has to say, but it wouldn't be a choice for me at present if I hadn't already done it.

If you're upgrading solely to play PS5 TSW3 then no, but then I would say that about upgrading for any singular game. If however you have a fair collection of games that have upgrades available (some are free, some are not), then yes its worth it

DLC limitation is still an issue, and like others have posted its stopped me playing TSW3 as much as I did TSW2, maybe an hour a week at most now

That aside, the fidelity between base PS4 and PS5 is noticeable. Some routes have FPS issues in dense areas, including stations. PS5 gives you extra layers that are not on PS4 which are pretty good

PS4 Pro to PS5 fidelity difference isn't as great as from base PS4 to PS5, but there are still improvements to be had

Save games can't be transferred from PS4 to PS5, however mastery will remain as long as you use the same DTG account

I also find I don't play anywhere near as much on TSW3 on the PS5 as I did on TSW2 on the PS4.

You would have to start fresh since you're going from ps4 to ps5. You have the 64gb dlc limit which is still being worked on by dtg so can't install everything. Since you're on ps4, you are missing out on layers such as those on hma, Brighton mainline and Bremen oldenburg. You also don't have access to longer consists on Sherman hill, horseshoe curve, cajon or future routes. For now, you might want to just stay on ps4 until dlc limit is fixed. Ps4 also has its own 50 item limit

I made the jump last month after waiting 2 years to get a PS5. I had to buy a bundle but in the UK at least it seems like there is now more availability of units.

I am pleased I made the jump. Graphically the improvements are not jaw dropping but noticeable. The main thing for me was the increased stable frame rate, as on 'most' routes it is pretty smooth on PS5. Also the improved shadows make the experience less jarring.

I also noticed that the graphical/LOD issues on some locos/emu units that were present on the PS4 version were not there on the PS5.
