I'm trying to get a nice happy medium between visuals and performance, and so far am struggling! It's especially bad on the Blackpool Branches route, where the framerate drops are pretty much out of control. My system is as follows: Ryzen 5 3600 GTX 1660 Super 16GB 3200MHz RAM (dual channel) The game is installed on a SATA SSD and I'm aiming for 1080p resolution and ideally 60fps, but I'd be happy with 30 if it's stable with minimal drops. So, my PC isn't exactly a beast, but is well in excess of the stated minimum requirements. I've been trying with the medium preset, as anything lower than that seems to make the game look incredibly bad. I've also tried to use the Lossless Scaling program and it helps to a degree, but I'm still getting very noticable frame drops with this, even when limiting the game to 30fps. Any suggestions welcome (especially in terms of which graphical settings have a greater impact on performance to try and help tailor things). I would, as stated above, be happy with a stable 30fps. I know ultimately the best solution is going to be to upgrade my PC, and I do intend to upgrade both the CPU and the graphics card when I have the cash spare to do so, but that's not going to be an option for a little while.
CPU - AMD Ryzen 7950x GPU - PowerColor RX6800 XT 16GB MOBO - Gigabyte X670 Aorus Elite AX RAM - 2 x 16GB G.Skill Trident Z5 NEO 6000MHz CL30 PSU - Corsair RM1000x NVMe - Sabrent Rocket 2 TB (Gen3) Monitor is an AOC 27" 1080P, so nothing fancy I flick between medium and high settings, don't really mess around too much.
My setup - Windows 11 11th Gen Intel(R) Core(TM) i5-11400F @ 2.60GHz, 2592Mhz, 6 Core(s) Cru Pro 64GB DDR 4 3200MHz NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1660 Ti 6GB 2TB SSD - Separate from System SSD (1TB) Display - Sky Glass 65" 3840x2160 Full Screen High Graphics Detail 60 FPS Control - Raildriver, wireless keyboard + mouse No issues so far.
Now, this one is interesting. Your system is a little better than mine in terms of CPU and GPU, but not drastically and you're getting smooth performance at 4k resolution on high settings, where as I'm getting horrible performance at medium with 1080p. I may need to load up MSI Afterburner later and see if something stands out as being odd.
Intel i5 12600kf 16gb corsair vengeance pro ddr4 3600 Rtx 3070 8gb All overclocked Msi 27 wqhd 180hz 1440 curved display Run the game @ 1440 All settings ultra Screen percentage 180% Fps anywhere between 60-120 Was thinking yesterday I might treat myself to a rtx 4070 ti and a 4k display.
Apart from the usual TSW stutter, runs great at a locked 60fps at 150% resolution, but this is at 1080P so I'd be worried if it started dipping.
RTX 3060 (12 GB VRAM) Ryzen 7 5800X 32 GB RAM FHD (1920x1080) monitor my game actually runs fine for the majority of locations, but I do get drops to 30-40 FPS around Frankfurt. I have changed my ingame graphic settings aswell as my Engine.ini quite a lot to keep a good look with some graphical enhancements while maintaining a good performance.
Maybe I need to try the scaling options and see how that works. Am I understanding correctly in that the screen percentage option in TSW5 is effectively a scaling option, so when you choose 200%, the game is rendering at double your chosen resolution?
Intel Core i7 12700K 32gb corsair vengeance DDR4 RTX 3070 8gb ASUS VG278Q 1080P monitor @ 165Hz I run all settings at high-ultra with TAA enabled, and fps locked at 62fps and usually get a stable 50-60 fps with a few microstutters every now and then. Screen percentage for TSW5 is set to 200%
Windows 11, Nividia Geforce RTX 4060 Ryzen 5 5600 16 GB of System RAM Settings All on Ultra or High where only High is availabe TAA Enabled on 1080p resolution Not quite right. yes on 1080p mostly cpu works more than the gpu but only because the CPU always has to deliver frames to the GPU no matter what resolution. But if you run on 4K the cpu capabilities to deliver frames to the GPU are the same. Only the GPU now has to work more to render the higher resolution. But you dont get less frames on 1080p or more frames on 4K just because the GPU has to work more. The limiting factor in this case is always the CPU. The CPU just hasnt to deliver all frames it is cabable off on 4K because the GPU doesnt render fast enough.
AMD Ryzen 7 3700X NVIDIA RTX4070TI 2 Nvme/ 2 SSD all Samsung msi mag322cqr 32inch Everything at highest possible NVIDIA DSR 1440p to 4k 100% screen
I think there is no people, who can say " On my PC Frankfurt runs the same as the bare plains". And your PC can handle high settings(except clouds) easily even with 120% screen scale.
Although I own some of the German routes because I got them in bundles, I primarily just play the UK routes, and it seems Frankfurt is like the performance I've been getting on the Blackpool branches route. I found this though which could end up being very useful: https://dovetailgames.freshdesk.com...0001036215-train-sim-world-settings-explained
Yes at 200% the game is effectively rendering at 8k or so I've been told Matt has explained it on the forum somewhere. When I had a 1080 display, the max I could have was 120% before it really started to dent fps. The problem I find is that once you have seen 200% scaling, you really notice the drop in picture quality at 100%. If you look on train sim community, there is some ini files made for low end and high end pc's.
Thanks, I will check out the ini files and see if anything helps! I don't expect to get everything maxed out with my rig, but I feel I should be seeing better results than I am seeing currently!
I5 12400 32gb DDR4 Rtx 4070 super 27" 2K Monitor 1 X 1TB M2 SSD (Windows), 2 X 2TB M2 SSD. (Steam & Data) All settings in game on highest, except sky on high. JETWASH Ultra mod. Screen 125%, Capped at 60 fps. Mostly smooth. Some small dips in certain areas.
Ryzen 5 5600G 32 GB DDR4 GTX 1660 Ti 1080p Monitor Main Drive: SanDisk Extreme Pro NVMe M.2 SSD 500 GB TSW 5 Drive: WD Blue SATA M.2 SSD 500 GB (using a 2.5" enclosure/adapter for the M.2 SATA SSD, but it's not important as it's all SATA anyways, as I wanted to continue using the SATA M.2 SSD as I only have one M.2 slot) Settings: Foliage Quality: High Shadow Quality: High Effects Quality: High Sky Quality: High Fog Quality: Ultra Post Process Quality: Ultra View Distance Quality: Ultra Texture Quality: High AntiAliasing: TAA VSync: Off Screen Percentage: 100% I am getting around ~30 to 60fps on average, but nonetheless extreme lag in very large and complex locations (München/Augsburg Hbf, Frankfurt Hbf), it's enough for me. No DX12 flag because it has streaming issues on low VRAM GPUs.
This is a pc I might build . Just want to know if tsw5 will run at ultra settings at 1440p and have 60 and above fps in most cases. No t good with pc specs but to what I've researched they should not be any noticible bottlenecks. Any advice would be appreciated. Thank you.
Sorry I just need a second opinion if this is a good build and run at 60 fps and higher at very high to ultra settings.
I see it. You just put the image between "No" and "t", and as a result, it turned out that you answered your own question. I have already expressed my opinion in other threads. And my opinion is like: the more powerful your hardware, the higher you set the settings; the higher you set the settings, the more severe the freezes and performance drops become in certain areas. And so we came to that moment: who will win? Powerful hardware vs overloaded UE. I mean it's a nice one PC. RAM is overpriced(like any of Corsair products). 7900XT is a strange choice to my taste. Maybe you got a very juicy price, then I understand you.
- Intel Core I9-13980HX (all P-cores active, and only 8 of the 16 E-cores active). - Nvidia GTX 4070 8GB - 16GB RAM DDR-5 5800MHz All game settings are on high/ultra (except for Sky: low). AA: FXAA, Screen percentage:135. Most DLCs will run capped at 60fps. I get 50-55 on the Mildmay. (45 during the worst times).
Here's my specs for my 3 year old PC - Windows 10 64-bit 22H2 - 11th Gen i5-11600K @ 3.90GHz - 32.0 GB DDR4 @ 3600 - NVIDIA 3060 Ti 8gb @ 1920x1080 - All my settings are at high/very high/ultra but depending on the route I can get anywhere between the highest of 100fps (capped) and lowest of 24 usually in busy areas such as yards and stations, however most the time it's around 45-60fps though.
AMD Ryzen 5700x3D AMD RX9700 32 GB DDR4 1080p 144hz monitor Ingame 1080p All settings max/ultra Scaling 100 or 120 Fps limit 40 x2 frame generation = solid 80 fps (pushed to 120 fps on routes like LGV for sense of speed ) Using JetWash Lighting and graphic enhancement mod on Ultra preset
Windows 11 24H2 I7-13700k 4090 64gb ram. Running DX12 and Jetwash’s beast ini changes. I have my frame rate locked at 60fps and rarely notice it dip, if I turn the frame rate counter off, I’d never notice. Still get the odd micro stutter when it’s loading scenery but for the majority of the time, it runs beautifully. Without any ini changes and removing the DX12 option it becomes a lot worse. So I really appreciate the work modders have put in to get this game looking and running better.
My Rig: AMD Ryzen 9 9950X PCIE 5.0 16-Core CPU; MSI MEG X670E Godlike Mobo; Win 11 Pro (64 bit); 32GB KLEVV CRAS XR5 RGB 32GB 6200MHz DDR5 RAM XMP 3.0 ; Samsung SSD 990 PRO PCIe Gen 4.0 M.2 NVMe SSD. MSI GeForce RTX 3090 VENTUS 3X 24G OC GPU; Dell g3223q G-Sync 144Hz (DP HDR) 4K UHD Monitor. HDR (In Windows Settings) is On and so is Auto HDR. It seems (at least to me) that this gives a slightly improved image even though the game is not "made for" HDR. Running DX12 Game Settings: Ultra/High (Sky Quality= Very High) Windows Mode: Windowed Fullscreen Graphics Preset: Ultra Max FPS: 72 (Using Lossless Scaling latest version: Currently 3.1.0.2). (Max Frame Rate in Nvidia Control is 144Hz. GSync is On) AntiAliasing: On VSync: On (Also On in Nvidia) Screen Percentage: 150% Audio Settings in GameUser.ini: MasterSoundVolume=1.0 SFXSoundVolume=1.500000 AmbienceSoundVolume=2.500000 DialogueSoundVolume=1.400000 ExternalAlertVolume=1.300000 MenuSFXVolume=1.000000 InGameUIVolume=1.000000 (Game music: 20%) The game is installed on my system disk (4TB Samsung SSD 990 PRO M.2 NVMe SSD) which is super fast. DDR5 RAM (6200MHz) is also very fast. I have found that overclocking my system is unnecessary. I get excellent in-game 4K video with good frame rate and very limited occasional stutters. I am not using any of Jetwash’s excellent .ini changes (too much hassle to keep up with his updates! ( ). I do, however have several mods to my own Engine.ini gleaned from recommended changes posted elsewhere here by Gelaxo and Jetwash some time ago. Reason for Edit: Corrected a typo.
