Imagine the following scenario: You can choose one country, and all railway routes and vehicles that exist in that country (in real life) will immediately be available to play in your Train Sim World game. However, all existing DLC from other countries will be lost forever. Which country would you choose? If you chose one of the lower options, feel free to post which exact country (or countries) you mean Edit (to avoid further misunderstanding):
Completely utopic (and prone to cause riots in the community for those left behind). Unless you want to wait until the AI can completely build routes on its own. "ChatGPT, build me the complete rail network for Scandinavia" ... a few moments later... "Ready. Click the link provided."
Absolutely. That was meant theoretically, of course it's a utopian scenario. This survey is more for analytical purposes, so I apologise if I was unclear. Of course, something like this will never materialise.
To absolutely no one’s surprise, the Brits are voting for Britain, Germans voting for Germany & in a few hours, the yanks will vote for the US.
I voted USA Bigger country means more variety... and I'm bored to death with UK and German routes because they all look the same. I'll take more deserts, mountains, and the Alaskan wastelands would be cool too. I am Polish / German, but been living in the UK for the last 45 years.
You can be sure that DTG don't randomly choose countries. The biggest markets are Germany, UK and the US. Since MSTS. The rest are minorities where the anticipated sales will not justify creating commercial content - that would be the community's job as in MSTS and RailWorks - problem is the broken TSW editor. No routes to be released there, only Play In Editor for the authors themselves. This will exactly be the outcome of your poll, only justifying DTG's choices, unless people are not taking it seriously (as it's not DTG asking them) and just make random votes to spoil the outcome for fun.
I realise that, but I would still find specific percentages interesting. I'm also especially interested in the other countries.
I didn't vote - wouldn't be interested in a single country since I like variety represented by a good mix of countries
I would consider this dystopia, not utopia. If I could only have one, then of course I would choose my home country, but I would be missing out on so many amazing railways from other countries that I would feel considerably worse off compared to what we have now.
Wouldn't really bother me as I'm only interested in UK routes. The only reason I have LGV installed is for the TGV layer on SEHS, but other that's it. I suppose the only problem with that is the loss of revenue from those whose main interests are not UK routes.
Not surprised US only has 2 votes, even if DTG put all their effort into them, they would still be mediocre at best, and freight would still be terrible. Also no vintage stuff cause "access to equipment for sources"
Yea that’s why I went with Germany. Didn’t go with UK because it’s basically world of EMUs…. Although I could def get down with vintage UK diesel routes
As someone who likes routes from all over the world, it’s a nonsensical poll and goes against the grain of DTG’s LAMPOIL assessment for viable DLC. I therefore abstain. Why should they waste time building (for arguments sake) a 30 mile freight only line in the UK which sees two trains a day, when those same resources could be applied to building Chester to Llandudno, or maybe one of the much requested German routes. The closest we ever got to this formula was Microsoft’s second attempt at MSTS2 with their World Of Rails concept and we know how that ended up…
Hi everyone, First of all, thank you for all the responses to the poll, and a special thanks to those who shared their thoughts here—especially the critical ones. In case it came across that way, I want to clarify that my intention was never to suggest that DTG should only focus on one country. Like many of you, I value the diversity in Train Sim World and hope it continues. The purpose of the poll was simply to explore community preferences in a more focused way. I realize I could (and, perhaps, should) have worded it differently, but the results so far have been insightful. While it's no surprise to see Germany and the UK leading, it’s interesting that the USA is ranked lower, and France is following behind the top two. I hope this clears up any misunderstandings and that we can move toward more constructive discussion! Thanks again for your feedback!
I'm surprised no one else suggested Australia, considering its a country that has the kind of trains you will find in the US, UK, and Europe. All in one country.
Luxembourg - One country, about the same size as the Isle of Wight, with a substantial rail network. Very varied scenery, freight and passenger services including international trains to Belgium, France and Germany. You can have every route, including the AMTF preservation line, all in a small area.
As a local I was going to but we don't really have enough routes that could be made without using the same stock. Also we have a ton of different signalling systems per state which would be hell to get use to. Uk is better as you get variety and different kinds of routes that aren't just for us aussies this small suburban network, sydney or 20 freight lines with repetitive scenery.
I see. My aunt works on the railways in Melbourne I think. She sometimes sends the kids videos of the railway. It looks good. I'm getting bored of the dtg UK routes, always the same short emu or dmu runs that should have a large variety of trains, but seem to ship with just 1 or 2. Apart from wcml that has variety but a poor timetable.
I would give back / cancel al the routes ever made in TSW in a blink to get the whole Netherlands Network and all the Trains in TSW!
I don't think there is any 'right' or 'wrong' answer. I think, people will naturally pick the country or area they are familiar with. Mine would obviously be the UK... Southern Region in particular. Not opposed to full mainlines (London to Birmingham or London to Doncaster etc... ).
At the cost of losing Peninsula Corridor, which is my actual home train line and my favorite route in TSW as a whole because of it...I'd take Japan and the entirety of the JR Conglomerate's route coverage. Extreme variety of services, scenery, frequencies, speeds, terrain, and rolling stock. This is not even including the many private non-JR companies.
Absolutely not true. I'm British and voted for German routes. Playing TSW over the years has given me a brand-new interest in German (plus Austrian and Swiss) railways in particular. I still love British routes of course, but they're not my favourite anymore.
Obviously US fans are underrepresented. Perhaps, like me, they abstained because they enjoy trains from all countries of the world. Actually I think even Germany is underrepresented. I suspect that there are at least as many German fans as British. Perhaps they too are ecumenical in their choices. It's a pointless poll anyway. Given the largely British membership of the forum, the results are bound to be skewed. The sentiment that " I'm only interested in UK railways " is fairly common here.
Or, perhaps they are just baffled by the fact there are other countries in existence! I must say though I weren't expecting Britain (lets be honest not many of those votes are for NI ) to lead by quite as much as we have, I'd have thought germany to be much closer. Not complaining though, its nice to be in the lead!
No, we are just so fed up with the limited amount of content for US on TSW that we know other countries would benefit from a total commitment from DTG.
As a german i voted for UK Stuff only. I like the variety of different rolling stock across the whole country. Every route almost always has different rolling stock. Even if (almost) all modern trains are EMUs. But I don't really care about that, i like it, thats it. I can't stand those awful red DB wagons any more. I'm not a fan of German trains anyway. I'd rather sit in a car for several hours than get on a German train. I prefer to travel by car rather than by train (travelling by car is also a lot cheaper). Yes, I'm not a train enthusiast, but I do like virtual trains from the UK.
I chose Switzerland just because of familiarity and yeah I know it's a fairly small country, but man do they have some Scenic routes. Plenty of rolling stock choices too. The more unhinged part of my brain would've chosen Russia just because of how vast the country is and how beautiful I find the RZD locomotives.
TSW is definitely not the game for you There's a lot of fine swiss routes in TSC, for the rest... Trans-Siberian Railway Simulator must do. It's quite fun actually.
I think if I only could judge by a country and only could have railways from this country, I would like to have a country which offers a wide variety in terms of routes and locos, where its worth to have all routes and locos represented. Which is a challenge, because many routes and locos in real life of one country are some kind of similiar I feel. If we could have one country only, there should be a lot of variety for the players from it and not only routes of equal profile, running through equal scenery having locos which are comparable. On the long term I think, it's simply best to provide more countries and more different routes with more different rolling stock to the game, and not always stick to the same kind of routes with the same kind of locos (and this even within a country). Yes, this is somehow against the mainstream and the market, but in the end is what will bring new colors to the game.
I'm going to wait until all the countries on this planet have smashed themselves into one singular super country and then pick that one, then I get all the railways in the world and don't miss out on anything.......
