Just curious how many others would like a third customizable controller option for advanced controls? Such as having shift keys mapped for multiple button mappings? (Along the lines of Space Engineers...)
Yup, I posted in another thread that elite dangerous is the perfect example of how to use context sensitive menus rather than radial menus
I just went and read that comment, that is pretty cool! I have not got into Elite Dangerous... Space Engineers has the bumpers as shift. Left bumper makes all other buttons (including dpad) a new function, same for Right bumper, and again if you hold both bumpers!
Elite is deffo worth a look and not just for the controller layout m8, top game! On elite it uses the four main face buttons that can either be pressed or held as a shift key which can be combined with any direction on the dpad or the shoulder buttons and triggers. Another nice touch is if you quickly hold the shift key and press the button the action happens with no onscreen display but if you hold the shift key for a second or so a transparent context menu pops up showing what each button would do if pressed so for seasoned pros you never see it but for newer player learning the controls you can get a reminder
Yes! Elite Dangerous has had this perfected for years now, AND it's fully customizable. Space Engineers scheme is pretty good too, though not quite as intuitive IMO. I realize it would take development resources, but i hope DTG at least consider the idea.
Ya I'm sorry but there was so many choices they could have went with to have amazing controls, and lots of controls, but the one they picked is no good, lets take away 30 features and give you zoom, in one location. I'd really like to zoom outside to or even while walking around, why didn't they do that? But ya the shift thing is cool to, have right trigger and bumper as throttle then when you hold left bumper right trigger and bumper become break. Is just an example, cause for the most part it's nice have them at the same time, but dang you could almost be as fast that way anyways. And there is no way your taking away my free camera lol
At the moment tutorials and scenarios are forcing you into starting with the controls they’ve been scripted for (some controller instructions pop up on the screen during scenarios etc.) but with Sand Patch they have made a big error because the functions needed to actually play aren’t supported by the immersion controls and if the game forced you to switch to those because you had selected classic in the first place you can’t switch back in the tutorial/scenario. With some instructions appearing that are specific to one controller setup, and other possible scripting issues, there’s a chance it would also lock you out of your custom controls if that option was implemented. That would be a wrong move in my opinion. If any further changes are made to controller setups, more thought and testing needs to go into it to make sure the content is useable with whatever changes are made and there probably isn’t the dev time to do that soon, or to implement customisable controls either. Apart from something urgently needing to be done to rectify the missing internal screens limitation, especially to make SPG playable, the possibility of a few tweaks and/or removing the locking out of classic controls, I think we will be stuck with what we’ve got for a while. It needs to happen though, so that if you come across a limitation of functionality that Dovetail have intentionally or accidentally created you can rectify it yourself or just find something much more to your liking to start with. As long as it’s never locked out it would be the best solution. If you introduce a limitation yourself, you can just change it, fix what you broke yourself, and eventually come up with the perfect controls for you.
Doesn't seem to have taken off too much I'm kinda happy with the way tsw 2 is atm but it can deffo be improved! I semi timed the context menu appearance on elite when the button is held and its about 1.75 seconds
People on their twitter are supporting the new controls a lot, and I get that, some people probably don't care about being able to use cameras or other options, so why not have immersion for people that want to sit in the seat and open some doors and that's all you do, and second set of controls called advanced maybe that gives you lots of options.
