So, simple question really, do you have any other transport-related hobbies other than trains? Conversely, is anyone here not interested in transport, and just likes playing simulators/video games? Bear in mind, the poll lists some of the most popular hobbies (a general overview) but this is a non-exhaustive list.
Before I started with trains, I was into the buses. But that wen't quickly down since where live are only boring buses that are all the same...
I‘m pretty obsessed with cycling. Though unfortunately it makes gaming look cheap. When I lived in the UK, I had an interest in Buses, particularly Devon General. I still have a decent collection of bus models back there in storage. Finally, I really like classic cars. When I move back to the UK it‘ll be to retire and I hope to be able to get some 60‘s classic to maintain as a hobby.
I'm into WW2 in a big way especially the aviation side. I meet friends annually at the Duxford flying legends show although because the obvious global pandemic we haven't for the past couple of years .
I love aviation. Had a YT Channel which I don’t update now as busy with other things. http://youtube.com/mcpcshowcaseHD
Have you tried Microsoft Flight Simulator X (Steam edition). It’s only £19.99 and despite being an old game, still holds up well and has good recent reviews on Steam.
That's a shame as the majority of remaining groundworks that have a link to the war are in Germany. Still much to be discovered- Reise, Molke etc
I won’t lie as much as I love trains buses had always been the main transport hobby for me until last year in lockdown, when I stumbled upon Geoff Marshal doing a video on Greater Anglia’s Class 745 EMUs, and it was down the rabbit hole from there
I'm quite into Aviation but have never been to an airshow. I have been to the Yorkshire Air Museum which I enjoyed and I also was lucky enough to see XH558 Vulcan fly a few times in her final year. I saw her at Doncaster a few times and then at Teeside Airport on her final UK tour. I'm on the main flight paths to 2 airports so regularly get photos of planes flying over and have even caught a few glimpses of the Airbus A300 Beluga on its way to Chester. I also build model kits of aircraft, cars and sci-fi subjects (namely Star Trek and Thunderbirds) and my small apartment has around 100 kits on display in cabinets and on shelves. Train simming is a hobby to me and I don't really go out to look at trains but I do enjoy driving them virtually. I was into flight sim many years ago (FS2004) and really enjoyed flying different aircraft types. I did modify the sim to have real liveries on the aircraft as well as some unusual types too. Unfortunately I don't have a CD drive on my laptop or PC now so I can't reinstall it.
Aviation However I favour the 5 star Cathay Pacific Singapore airlines Korean Air Japan Airlines over their Partners in the United States Delta American and United Airlines. Within Asia Pacific region I would put those Airlines listed over the oldest airline in the South China Sea region Philippine Airlines. In some cases I also watch Air Hostess vlogs.
I'm mainly a train/railway enthusiast but I'm into buses as well as I like the different manufacturers of buses out there like Volvo, Scania, Alexander Dennis, BYD etc. and I know a little bit about planes too, I like using Flightradar24 to see what planes are taking off from different airports in the UK at different times of the day too Trains/Railways: Best Train Operator: Avanti West Coast Worst Train Operator: CrossCountry Best Train Class: Class 390 'Pendolino' Worst Train Class: Classes 141-144 'Pacer' Buses: Best Bus Manufacturer: Alexander Dennis Worst Bus Manufacturer: Optare Best Bus Type: Enviro300 Worst Bus Type: Solo M600 (however I do like Solo SRs as they are a) newer and b) better than the older M600s) Aviation: Best Airline: Don't have an opinion Worst Airline: As above
Mine Would be: Trains/Railways: Best Operater: Great Western Railway Worst Operator: Don't Have One. Best Train Class: Class 67 Worst Train Class: Don't Have One. Buses: Best Manufacturer: Alexander Dennis Worst Manufacturer: Don't Have One. Best Bus Type: Dennis Dart SLF (Grew up with them as Wilts And Dorset) Worst Bus Type: ADL Enviro 500. It's the E400MMC with minor changes. Aviation: Don't care tbh.
Yes same here, other than trains my main interests are football, cars, farming machinery and military planes/jets (not much interest in choppers).
I love football and cars as well, absolutely devoted man united fan, and I am into cars (supercars mainly)
There is a specific football thread so I won't say comment on your use of a swear word (in my house anyway). I love my classics and other cars I remember from over the years. Saying that I don't own a classic but always wanted to buy another MGBGT as I had one when I was a bit younger and it was a lovely car!
I may have had a little incident and someone bought it at scrap value so not much at all (can't recall an exact value). I think he rebuilt it but not sure.
Well first of all I went the wrong way, then I swore a lot! Luckily about 5 minutes later one of my mates went by so I flagged him down, he took me home, I got a tractor and flatbed trailer and then we went back and put the car on the trailer and we took it back to where I lived and covered it over.
My ultimate hobby has always been buses ever since I was a small child growing up in South London surrounded by lovely Gardener engined vehicles with their iconic sounds as well as collecting the different local bus maps. Even now as the scene isn’t as interesting as it once was, it remains a big passion of mine. I’m also into football though I’ll leave that out of this thread. Favourite all time double decker: Leyland Olympian, Leyland Titan & MCW Metrobus - I can’t pick between the three Favourite all time single decker: Dart, both high floor & SLF Favourite low floor double decker: Dennis Trident, narrowly beating the DAF/VDL DB250LF Favourite low floor single decker: Dart SLF
You don’t say!!! That was lucky, how did you find a tractor and trailer just lying about, that just seems random!!!
It was my tractor. I live(d) in a village in south Lincolnshire surrounded by farmland so I used to help out on the family's and mate's farms. Don't worry I didn't just steal a tractor!
