Has anyone else noticed how PlayStation 5 performance is getting really bad. There's a lot more stuttering going on. When trains pass each other it's like a slide show. It's at a point now where I just don't play Tsw5 any more and not buying anymore dlc. I don't understand how dtg think this is exceptable. I love this game but feel it's just not enjoyable anymore. Tsw2 up to tsw4 has been good to play. I except odd stuttering that's never changed but Tsw5 feels a mess on ps5. Please DTG sort this out. Some kind of optimisation.
Same here, not finding the game very enjoyable with the performance. I’ve asked the question in the roadmap q&a, advise you do too - the more of us that ask it, the less likely it can be skipped over.
It's not just PS5, but PC too. Likewise I have asked the question on the roadmap Q&A, in the hope the management team actually read that part of the forum, understand the frustration and give us some positive answers.
Even if they do tell us something positive, their actions don’t seem to line up. ‘Optimisations’ have been on their to do list for years, yet performance issues continue to creep in, with some routes (WCMLS for example) they’re seemingly released without checking for any glaring issues on this front. There were what, 3 tiles on the route which needed attention as they found unoptimised assets. The whole 350 itself was fronted as an optimisation issue. Then there’s the discovery that their PIS system which gets used across multiple trains has a hole in its optimisation. Those examples don’t show me that DTG care about solving the optimisation issue, because it didn’t take them very long at all to tell us those were the issues, but it then took a good couple of months to be resolved. If they were genuine about solving those problems then there would have been a point in the development process where those issues were picked up. Even as recent as yesterday’s NLL release, it was only 4 days prior that Matt said “this route runs great on consoles” & the reality turned out to be the complete opposite. So either Matt has just lied, or no one inside DTG has actually told him that there is indeed issues with the console build. As the senior producer though, I’d think it falls within his remit to at least check first hand, before you know, producing it. This texture problem is another example of saying one thing & doing another - it’s something they’re working to resolve, yet they seemingly aren’t able to spot the problem before release? That again doesn’t demonstrate there’s any focus on the issue.
All I ever here is have you switched some layers of. Well why should I. I paid for the whole experience if I'm switching everything off just to get some kind of performance boost what's the point. And in any case switching the layers of makes no difference to the dog performance.
And another thing I keep hearing is well it ran ok on our dev console. Well go out and buy a PlayStation 5 console like the rest of us and then load the game up and play it in the real world then you will see what we have to put up with.
I do find this quite funny. With each rendition of tsw, they spend time adding more features and layers. Their answer to improve performance; disable these features and layers.
It's LOVE in some places the framerate etc. Only had one crash so far. Blurry textures only occur when loading up a service and entering cab view from external. Struck at how worse performance is to tsw4 etc
Series X user and finding myself gradually falling out of love with the game for many of the reasons outlined above. The only route I never seem to have any issues with is Blackpool Branches, but have played that one to death now and find little incentive to play the others (if Skyhook would hurry up and release the 158 timetable for Fife Circle that might change) but really struggling to find myself wanting to boot the game up these days, which is a real shame. Finding more joy, for "sim" type experience, in building away on Planet Coaster these days, and also the recent release of Like a Dragon Pirate Yakuza in Hawaii isn't helping much :P
There seems to be a disconnect between the developer of NLL and the QA team. Surely the performance on console should've have been flagged especially as Johannes didn't have access to console dev kits? I would agree that performance is pretty ropey on PS5 on some routes more than others. It's clear that more work needs to go into optimisation and eventually people will just stop buying DLC if it continues. One thing's for sure, I'd bet good money on Thomas/WSR addon running flawlessly!
The dev kits have buckets more ram at presumably faster speeds, which is probably a reason for texture problems not appearing on DTGs end, though you’d hope that A) DTG test on retail machines & B) the beta team flags it & DTG do something with it. Overall the 2 issues are that DTG seem to be depending on raw power to overcome their poor optimisation & there are still obvious failings with the QA process.
On the XBox side this should not really be an issue as the retail hardware can literally be flipped to serve as a devkit with a software toggle. It's why there's such a thriving homebrew scene. And yet they miss obvious issues on all platforms equally.
I'm also on PS5 and can agree with everyone here on the performance issues that TSW5 is facing. All we hear on these forums from community managers and DTG staff is 'we're aware of the issues and will let you know when we have a fix' etc etc. When a patch update finally comes around all that seems to happen is the small and minor 'low-hanging fruit' issues are fixed and major issues are made worse. I would love someone from Dovetail's senior management to come on here and read the posts for themselves to actually find out how bad things are. PLEASE DTG slow down the release schedule and spend some time fixing the core stability and problems with the game.
This is why I have asked in the Roadmap Q&A why the Executive Producer stated he is no longer looking at the forums. The truth might hurt and no one is expecting a personal one to one response in every thread, but if you’re the man where the buck stocks for quality and performance issues, it’s part of your job. Even if it makes for hard reading and not always couched in the most diplomatic terms, you need to be on top of what’s going on even if uncomfortable reading.
Apparently so. Even if not actively looking then the Community Managers should be feeding back what people are saying and ensuring brought to attention.
Well one thing for sure, they need to work on better communications with the paying customers, I.e. us, when it comes to information about the state of the game and what’s being done about it. The wall of silence doesn’t help and then leads to the frustrations and harsh comments the EP doesn’t want to read, it would seem.
It's been nice to read the comments on here and glad I'm not the only one so thank you. As normal silence from above. Like I said I've stopped spending money now I wish loads of us would do the same and then may be just may be DTG would wake up and do something.
This game runs worse on my PS5 than any other game. Also ridiculous loading times (worse the more DLC you have). The PS5 has a lightning fast SSD so I wonder if the devs know how to take any advantage of this platform's abilities. It seems like they just give PS5 a build of the game that runs OK with locked presets but isn't actually optimized for the hardware, and then the more content is added those presets no longer provide the best experience and everything runs bad.
Exact same feeling here. Gaming is supposed to be a fun hobby, TSW was my most played game for the last few years (300+ hours each in TSW 2, 3, 4 and own almost every DLC up until a few months back) but now when I fire it up I am just annoyed constantly by performance issues, blurred textures, and new bugs from every patch fixing 3 things and breaking 10. It feels more like a job than a hobby and my TSW time has dropped to almost nothing while I play Gran Turismo 7, MLB The Show, Snowrunner, various story games and multiplayer stuff with friends. My time sinking game has become the "Airport Hero" series which is a air traffic control type game out of Japan.
Yea gran turismo 7 takes all my hours now a stunning game. I've played a total of 6 hours in Tsw5 since it's release but hundreds of hours and money spent on tsw2 tsw3 tsw4. I love this game and I love trains and now it's all ended. I so badly want all the new dlc but I'm not giving in to cash grabbing business men. How this company is still in business is beyond me with so many promises and broken lies. Guess what tsw6 is next a carbon copy of Tsw5. Well I'm of to play gran turismo 7 in Vr. breathtaking.
