The Late 1930s, WW2 Was on the brink of happening, but more Importantly the Southern Railway (uk) was Electrifying the 43ish mile Portsmouth Direct Line and with it came the Precursor to the Famous Southern Region Electrics like the 4-CIG but lets talk quick about Services: Which comprise of Passenger services, probably just following Today's Service Patterns, but later on when Steam comes freight can be added via DLC, and thats about it. EMUs: Yes the real Carrots and Lettuce of this post, lets start with the BR Class 401, SR 2-BIL: These Units built in 1935 was Made for Semi-fast London - Eastbourne, Portsmouth, and Reading Services, Right up to 1971, Only a Single 2-BIL Set exists, which makes it a Great choice for this Route. BR Class 404, SR 4-COR "Nelsons" These 4 Car built in 1937 used to work Services Up and Down this Line right up till 1972, Some of these units Came with Buffet Cars, One complete set is Currently preserved and "Operational" in a Sense, along with some Cars from a few other sets still existing making them a Perfect choice for this route. Semi Plausible Layer: Other Southern Railway Locomotives and Multiple Units can Layer in to Help fill in the Pretty Limited Service Types, and The Units featured here could Layer out to a Late 1960s Southern Region Route, About it honestly. End: Thats it, a 1930s suggestion for once, I would've had a Steamer for freight but I couldn't find one that fit the Criteria I set for myself which was, Was a SR Loco in Service in the 1930s, Was At least Mixed Traffic, and is Preserved or has enough Material to suitably make a TSW Version, none did but thats fine if you know one let me know. thats all im out
The route needs another SR Classic EMU Class 402 2Hal that one is from TS22. This route can provide BML ECW & SEHS 750v dc Third Rail top contact sections Legends services if those were set in the 1960s
I wanted the 2-HAL but, At the Time it didn’t work on this Line, maybe as a Layer from a route where it would be More Appropriate but as a On release EMU for this route just No
Dovetail probably won't do it as it would be a) incredibly hard to research what the more obscure stations looked like b) it's probably too long for TSW2, both in length and time it would take to develop. Would be nice to see it be done though. Would also probably need some form of steam engine, which I personally think should be the Merchant Navy's
I would love to see the Class 401 come to TSW, I’ve been waiting for a mk1 EMU to put in Network southeast colours to run on London Commuter. Also it could layer onto DLGW because it goes to reading
Nice suggestion but knowing DTG they would do the route modern era and yet more plastic rolling stock.
