All of us at a few points in playing TSW have accidentally gone through a red signal or accidentally derail. And when it happens at the end of a scenario or timetable, it’s super frustrating as you now have to redo the entire scenario from the start if you were not saving the game. However, I think I found a possible solution to fix this issue. There are two ways this could be done. The first way is to rewind the scenario to the checkpoint before the scenario failure. For example, if you SPAD outside of Faversham, you could get the option to rewind the scenario to the previous stop or go via location before the scenario failure. So if I’m an express train, I would get teleported to Sittingbourne at the time it tells you to lock the doors. In other words, every time you successfully complete a checkpoint, the game creates a save so that you can go back to it if you don’t complete the next task. However, this leads to one major issue. Let’s say you are on Great Western Express and I’m doing an express service to reading. Most timetables and scenarios for express trains are just directs. (Tells you to stop at reading when you’re at London Paddington). This would basically reset the timetable. This leads to my second solution which is you get rewinded about 3-5 mins before the scenario failure. Let’s say I SPAD outside of Reading at around 9:55. You would get the option to go back 5 mins before the spad. The game would spawn you wherever you were at 9:50. However, this could also lead to issues such as the game spawning you in a bad place 5 mins before the scenario failure such as spawning you when you are in the middle of stopping at a station. Either way, scenario/timetable failures can be very frustrating when playing the game as starting over is always super painful. Adding one of these features could help the game substantially from a gameplay standpoint. I understand that this could be difficult to make a reality, but this could heavily benefit the game.
