I just thought like with most games you could install but the game would be locked until release day.
I’m on PS5, I don’t know for PC and Xbox but as early access begins on 21st of September for Deluxe and Special Edition, auto-download, is expected for the 19th of September.
As G92 said, for PS5 it will download from the 19th onwards. PS4 presumably follows the same since it’s all the same store.
I’m pretty sure Xbox doesn’t have a date for download, it’s usually available from moment of pre order purchase to download, though if you try and load it up it comes up with the message “you’re too early” and closes or something along those lines. then the minute it ticks live it loads straight up.
Certainly on Steam/PC, TSW doesn’t usually get a preload. Which means, despite releasing at 1800 BST on Thursday for early access, depending on the file size it will probably be later in the evening before being able to fire up and play. I would imagine the console versions will be the same.
Base game, 4 routes, 2 extra locos, 2 pre-order decal packs = 9 products each for PS5 and PS4. I even have a time displayed for the pre-download on mine, 16:00 (BST) on the 19th, although Sony being Sony it's defaulted to pre-downloading everything for the PS5 version and all DLCs but not the base game for PS4.
My advice would be to try and see it’s already downloadable on Xbox way I think pre orders work is download then for those who have pre ordered special and deluxe will be available to play from 4pm Thursday though this is only for new tsw4 routes as dlc transfer from tsw3 unavailable until the official launch 5 days after early access
Wait? What? I can only play what is in TSW4 on early access day? So an empty Vorarlberg, Dresden and ECML? I guess I will be playing Antelope Valley until official launch day I suppose?
Yes. The other DLC is not available until the 26th. Kind of defeats the purpose of getting early access, but it is what it is.
Sure but the traffic will be missing. Antelope Valley is the only route that does not have a lot of traffic so I'll be playing that. I will get bored very fast though
The ECML with the Azuma shouldn’t be too bad either as regards missing layers. Not seeing a 700 at Peterborough for a minute or two, not the end of the world.
Trying to think off the top of my head what other layers are on ECML, Class 66 we will be waiting for and I think the MML Class 158 might be on a few AI services but at Azuma speed, blink and you’ll miss it! So far as my available time is concerned, I’m probably only going to get one or two runs on each route in anyway, before everything else comes across on the 26th. AVL will take two hours to do the full run so that’s an evening and a bit and I believe Vorarlberg around 90 mins so again one evening of playtime. I will probably leave off starting the Journey and any Scenarios though until all the content is in.
I always play in Journey mode. It seems illogical to me to start otherwise. So I hope the journeys start with scenario's.
Early access is just an opportunity to have a go before the full release. I’ll probably have a go on all routes but as soon as I get all the required DLC for layers downloaded, I’ll repeat all the services I’ve already done to see how they are with the layers. I did the same with TSW3 early access. For ECML I won’t have the MML layer at all because I don’t own that route yet. It’s only five days so not long to wait for the rest of the content.
Yeah I know but that's what I don't like when I play journey mode. I have this crazy idea that I need to play it in the order as it is listed. That's just me being weird
Another cool thing if you own mml the 158 is drivable between Peterborough and Grantham from full launch date
The big advantage of early access is that you can get familiar with the 3 new routes, even though the traffic will not be all there. This will make it much easier to jump in to the service layers when the full launch comes. There is still some confusion in my mind as to what will be available/downloaded on the 21st. For instance, the updated NYT timetable will presumably download but the route itself will not be available/ downloadable until the 26th? And will we get early access to the " new " version of DRA? There's so much more information with TSW4, so much more to take in than there ever was with previous launches. My aging brain has a very old " hard drive ", not to mention limited short-term RAM ( memory ). It would be nice if DTG would collate this TMI into an overall TSW4 manual, but that may be wishful thinking.
In answer to your question the things that will Be available during early access are the base tsw4 game the flying Scotsman and the upgraded route plus your 2 packs of bonus decals etc and the vectron over and above 5 day early access
Thanks for that. Ooh, I'm really like looking forward to like those like decals. Sounds really cool. Will they be like stickers or something that like shows up in like the game?
ECML probably misses the most since you have layers that affect both ends & even some EMT traffic through the majority of the route. Voralberg won’t be too bad since most the layered traffic is on the German/Swiss side for the first few miles. Antelope is going to a very quiet route anyway so missing some freight isn’t going to have too much of an effect, other than some Static cars here and there. DRA ships with most of its traffic, but the missing IC will probably be notable, the missing ICE traffic not so much. For me it’s a shame as I did want to get the free roam mode to work, using some consists in existing timetables, aswell as ECML missing quite a chunk of traffic on both ends, also I did want to smash out the 158 on the Grantham - PBO runs, it’s a great train but MML doesn’t do it justice & im excited to get on a new route.
I pre ordered the deluxe edition on Xbox last week and it’s already pre downloaded everything included in that version, around 36gb iirc
it dont matter what layers are on as a Livestreamer and Uploader of gameplay on my You Tube channel and also Australia's OG Home of TSW we will be doing gameplay so wait or not ill be on and of course will be taken over with it the legend Custom Engine.ini settings to try stop as much Micro lag shutters as i can
