I will purchase a route with pre-order discount, if it is a route that interests me, but I believe DTG you would get more takers if you made the discount bigger, as in to two to three months time the steam discount is 25 to 30%. IMO the pre release discount should be at least 20%. So many will not buy a route knowing that the discount is much more in a few months time. DTG you should encourage more to purchase pre-orders with a larger pre launch discount.
Alternatively, if you don't want to be an early adopter of the new DLC, you could just wait the two to three months and get it for 20-25% off?
There’s your answer. People who want it will buy it one way or another and having a pre-order discount of 20% or waiting to buy it in a sale with 20% off makes no difference in DTG’s income or the player’s outlay. Those who will buy it immediately because their interest is so high, will buy it discount or not, which does increase DTG’s income in the short term. In the long run most players will spend what they can afford and get varying amounts of content for their money. DTG will receive the same amount. That’s oversimplifying it but it works for players who do buy stuff on release and buy a lot of content, rather than the casual player who makes a decision to either buy at a good discount or not buy at all, and they are probably never going to pre-order anything anyway. Also, and no minor point, console players get no pre-order discount, so PC players are getting a good deal with their 10%.
That happens with every game. The game is most expensive at release and then you start getting bigger and bigger discounts. It is the way the videogame industry works.
I agree, but just seems silly. The LGV french route had a 45% discount with a cd key during the recent stream sale but has now like stream gone back to pre sale price. The next steam sale starts on 24th June and discounts will be bigger for their summer sale.
