Since I started playing TSW4 I have noticed that my fps has dropped to 30 fps max. In TSW3 I was easily getting 80 - 100 most of the time, and I have fps limited to 100 via Steam setting. I was totally surprised at how much my fps dropped with the update. I have included my comp[uter specs and shots of my game and nVidia setting. Would love any suggestions on this. Computer specifications and this computer is now 3 years old. I really do not want to drop my world setting any further from what you can see in the screen grabs. Intel Core i9-9900 @ 3.60 GHz 32.0 GB installed RAM 1 TB SSD HD 4 TB drive Video NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3070 8 MB GDDR6 memory
I have a GTX 1660 and get 40-60FPS most of the time, but I do have some poorer settings aswell though Screen percentage 100% TSW4 did also have a performance upgrade which made it run quite smoother. I'm also probably gonna get an RTX 3060 soon (basically new PC) so I might then be able to be more of the judge of that then
if it was spelled foilage, it would fit, because the word "lag" would be in it. and yes I do because on the training center, for example, spawning on the outer loop station and looking into the forest at maxed foliage my framerate drops to barely 20 so I had to do that for the meantime until I get a better PC
Yeah I was wondering because my GPU is ~20% slower than yours (and has less VRAM) and I get 40+ fps looking at the forest from the outer loop with foliage on high, albeit with shadows, effects and post-processing on medium. Are you playing at 4K?
I have a 3080 and 7 7800x3d, rest the same, half a year old and I was hardly getting 90 fps in tsw3 on 1080 resolution. Although my settings are tiny bit higher and screen percentage is at 200% so I guess that is my issue
Okay that's seriously strange. I'm playing at almost 1440p (2560x1080 with 120% scaling), foliage on high and seeing twice your FPS, if yours is seriously just slightly above 20... In training center I can even max everything, I'm only using lower settings because of more detailed routes like Niddertal. Do you have a super weak CPU bottlenecking you or something? Yeah that one massively kills your FPS
foliage on ultra average FPS of 20-25 GTX 1660 Super as mentioned above (didn't mention Super before though lmao) foliage quality on low(est) solid 60 FPS (thats what I set max FPS to, see above I think)
it's also funny that foliage quality doesn't actually control the quality but only the amount of trees/bushes
That’s one heck of a resolution (5760x3240) you’re pushing, likely well beyond the capabilities of a 3070. As you’re in windowed fullscreen that’s the only option you have. Can I suggest you go full screen and see what options that brings you both in terms of resolution (drop it would be a good place to start) and / or reduce the screen percentage. I’m pretty confident that a 3090 couldn’t push that resolution and maintain 60 fps. I’d bet most 40series cards would struggle with it too. I notice your refresh rate in NvidiaCP is set to 30hz at that resolution, that in itself will limit you to 30fps.
The worst performance eater is actually the Skybox on ToD4 routes in all scenarios I have tested (my own build with a GTX 1660 Ti, my bf's upgraded build with a RX 7800 XT and his older build with a GTX 1070 Ti) - it DRAMATICALLY decreases FPS when the sky is half cloudy (a lot of smaller to larger clouds scattered) and setting the volumetric cloud RenderTargetMode to 0 on ToD4 routes increases performance EVEN ON MY BF'S RX 7800 XT by around 50% to 100%! It comes with a very small to small quality loss because of the clouds being traced at a quarter of the resolution and then being reconstructed at half of the resolution instead of traced on half res and reconstructed on full res. Does make a difference.
Okay so the issues with your settings: - you have VSync on. Turn it off if you are playing on borderless, and use GSync/FreeSync if possible. TSW locks on 30 fps or 60 fps when VSync is on. - the RTX 3070 isn't really suited well for such HIGH resolutions especially on ultrawide 4K. Especially since TSW is so unoptimized and resource hogging, you most likely will never get the performance you'd want (this is especially true for 4K setups) - as I mentioned in the previous reason, TSW is VERY unoptimized. Even a RX 7800 XT with RSR (Radeon Super Resolution, it's AMD FSR but integrated in the dGPU - basically FSR on driver level) scaling up to 2k ultrawide from 1.5k source resolution isn't really a big boost. TSW 4 is a performance disaster in comparison to TSW 3
I have tried with VSync on and off, but does not make any difference. JetWash, sorry, that 30 hz is for my other monitor, the one I play TSW on is at 60 hz.
Thanks to all the suggestions. I have made changes to the screen settings and my fps is now back up to the level it was in TSW3. Again thank you all so much.
May I ask for an explanation of the "volumetric cloud RenderTargetMode?" Is that a setting in the engine.ini? Nevermind, found it
Yeah but I want to see the speed limit signs and such a bit better, cant get the upscaling thingy right at all, it just looks awful
it works perfectly fine for me. you can either zoom or use some cheat stuff which I do not recommend if you want to train for the real job like I do lmao
