Is there no way to transfer the ps4 saved game data to the ps5 version of the same game for example the saved game data from the ps4 version of tsw4 to the ps5 version of tsw4? Would certainly make life easier and would save the hassle of going over everything again like collectables etc

Sadly, you do have to start over when migrating from the PS4 to the PS5 version of the game. There is no way to transfer your progress.

We desperately need cloud-synced profiles for TSW to prevent issues like these, as I recently suggested to DTG: https://forums.dovetailgames.com/threads/cloud-profile-syncing.84629/

I encourage you to submit your own suggestion or voice your frustrations with DTG support. We have the technology to prevent this problem. It just needs to be implemented!

Microsoft has been doing it as standard with XBox games this entire generation. Really it should be on Sony to implement, rather than devs needing to figure out out bespoke workarounds (Much like DTG already had to do for the PS5 DLC cap) - but yes, at the very least PS players should get access to this, given DTG have the tech available.

Sony does support syncing saved game data to the cloud. It requires PlayStation Plus which is not free though. I used this to sync my TSW profile to my wife's PlayStation when I was laid up with COVID, and it worked great.

That doesn't help game progress traverse PS4/PS5/PS6 game editions though. That is on DTG to implement, and they could pull it off by syncing our progress to the Dovetail Live cloud.

My point was that Microsoft's systems do this cross-gen save transfer between Gen8 and Gen9 versions of games for all XBox games as default*, something which was extremely helpful as so much of my collection (TSW included) got dedicated Gen9 versions released and all saved progress directly moved over from Gen8, just install a Gen9 version of a game and it directly copies your existing Gen8 save and you resume where you left off. Sony could and should do the same, they just don't want to.

DTG are only forced to work out their own solution on PS4/5 because Sony choose not to. Just like they chose to impose a DLC cap the other consoles don't have, forcing DTG to expend a ton of dev time on a workaround. Yes, DTG have the systems via Dovetail accounts in place to do so, and them doing it would be a huge benefit to PS players, and if they can do, they should, but they shouldn't HAVE to. The only part that should reasonably be expected of the devs is if they choose to support cross-platform saves as an increasing number now do.

*I've seen precisely TWO games where the publisher chose to opt out of this in the last 4 years, one of which being GTAV which already had an inbuilt cross-gen save transfer for its online component dating back to Gen7, a decade before MS implemented "Smart Delivery"

I didn't realize the Xbox had such robust save transfers! I wish that Sony had implemented something similar when they had the chance. Here's hoping that DTG can help us out by enabling cloud synced profiles in the future!

Early on it had some teething troubles with a few games. Like how imported Metro Exodus saves from Gen8 to Gen9 would have a curious batch of graphics settings which exceeded the Series X defaults for a new game (My guess is someone forgot to implement a check somewhere and the import defaulted to one of the PC presets) which pushed the hardware to overheat. Or how before a true Gen9 version of CP77 launched, the backcompat version would still detect you playing on Series X and up the grahics settings but because it was running in backcompat mode and the devs forgot to disable saving those graphics configs, saves made on Series X would load up on base XBox One with all the graphics settings cranked to max and run at 4fps. (Hopefully Sony avoid similar issues with PS5 Pro and cross-gen Pro-enhanced titles going into PS6 now we know they are committed to compatibility of PS4/5 libraries) Thankfully such issues were few, and vanished over time.
