I bought this controller in anticipation for the haptic feedback etc in tsw4 - in fact my only reason for purchasing tsw4. The controller worked as normal on tsw3 but on tsw4, it's a hot mess. I cannot find any settings to reconfigure anything. I have tried right click tsw4 - manage controller ect but nothing working..? What am I doing wrong? I have tried both wired and bluetooth.
Dualsense is not natively supported by Train Sim World, you must enable Steam Input for TSW4 game properties.
Make sure you also enable Playstation controller support for Steam which is in Steam settings -> Controller -> "Enable Steam Input for Playstation Controllers" Please note that TSW4 on PC will only use traditional rumble features, and might miss some advanced haptics because the PC support for HD haptics is not as complete as it is for traditional rumble motors. Your Dualsense will translate the rumbles automatically, though. Other Dualsense features such as the light bar next signal aspect and the controller speaker for safety systems is exclusive to Playstation consoles.
Only exclusive to playstation? Ah right - that's where its a deal breaker for me sadly and confirms a waste of an evening trying to make work. Refund it is and back to tsw3 sadly
To be fair I don't think Dovetail are really using advanced haptics even on PS5. Just feels like traditional rumble. But if they did, it probably wouldn't work on PC using a Dualsense because PC only really supports the traditional rumble.
im playing on PS5 and its definetly haptic feedback, not only standard rumble. the lightbar feature is pretty awesome, i really like it
Steam Input emulates an Xbox 360 controller which only has standard rumble functionality. The Dualsense controller will translate traditional rumble into haptics but there are not built-in advanced (HD) haptics available that I know of for PC, and like I said I don't think even the PS5 that fully supports haptics is being utilized by Dovetail beyond the basics. I'd expect to see more things that felt like the grinding of metal, or maybe some stereo haptics (utilizing only one side at a time). Instead it almost always feels like a normal vibration, sometimes subtle and sometimes not.
I use a PS5 controller on steam without issue. It worked in TSW3 And once set up for TSW4, it works fine also. Bluetooth and wired. Used it last night. All the rumbling works fine. I had to turn a lot of it down DTG said from the start that on PC, you would only get "Standard" rumblings etc. Not at home at the minute, but I can share my settings when I get home if it helps.
I'd be interested in your settings - my dualsense works fine on tsw3, just not for tsw4. But ultimately knowing it won't have all the features I wrongly assumed would work for Steam, I probably won't invest much more time or funds into tsw4 for the minute
Your controller should work fine with both games. Contact Dovetail support if you're having difficulties, I don't know why it wouldn't work if you have the same settings for TSW4 as you do for TSW3. (However I don't currently own TSW4 on PC and can't test it for you, unfortunately)
Nothing to do with DTG. Its a steam issue using non PC standard controllers. You have to tell it which type of controller you want to use for the game. As its a "New" game added to your library, Steam would not automatically assign a controller to it. Problem is, as I found out, it partially works as it is, but the sticks control the mouse cursor, and the Select/Confirm button does not work. You just need to tweak the controller settings. Have you uninstalled TSW3 already? If Not. check the controller settings in that game and duplicate.
When you say it's haptic, do you just mean you get a bit of vibration when you press the triggers? Because that's literally all I'm getting on PS5. There's no nuance to it, or a sense of feeling the controls, it literally just gives a little buzz when you press the trigger - doesn't in any way signify a positive engagement (or lack thereof) of the control you're moving. There's no change in pressure through the travel of the trigger, or at the point where the control moves or engages on the train. Given how incredible the DualSense feedback can be (the PS5 intro demo was mind-blowing in itself), there's nothing of value here. I've dropped the hover-over-control setting to 1%, but it's still more than it needs and the rest of the controls just do the same thing: buzz, buzz, buzz. Move the throttle: buzz, flick a switch buzz. It would be better in most cases if it were just a single click, without the pointless half-second rumble - that provides no useful feedback other than confirming I'm putting pressure on the button, and my fingers can tell me that anyway. If it's a two-position flick or twist control, the feedback should be a click, not a rumble. This is PS2 level interaction. To say it's poorly implemented is an understatement, so if anyone's on a PC and want a PS5 DualSense experience, this ain't the game to get it!
The vibration currently offered on PC, Xbox and PS4 is less refined than the one offered by the PS5. Even using a Dualsense on PC you won't get advanced haptics unless Dovetail specifically include that feature using Steam Input or another method. There are only a handful of games truly supporting advanced haptics on PC, so I'm not surprised that Dovetail aren't on that list and I believe in all cases it only works in wired mode. Also for what it's worth, I don't think Dovetail added any advanced haptics for PS5 either, it's just the rumble sliders actually do something noticeable. Your best bet is fully disabling the haptics for some things. Try just enabling the track/joint and coupling rumble, similar to how it is in TSC.
