The 1200 class intially saw use for wheat traffic, but later on spent most of their time on the main passenger trains. 1208 was rebuilt as 1225 in 1984-5, using parts from 1252 and 1253 class locos, and also being changed to the narrow body of the 1250 class. It was nicknamed "Hybrid" after this work.

Parts from 1252 and 1253 were used in the rebuild of 1208 to 1225.

    Years Build: 1962 - 1964
    1967 - 1969
    Weight: 62 t
    63 t
    Axle arrangement: Co - Co
    Engine: EE 6CSRKT
    About:
Both classes were initially used as branchline locos in the west (based at Alpha) and southwest (based at Roma) of the state, as well as for shunting around the state. Soon afterwards, all the 1600s were based at Alpha. The 1620s followed on from the success of the 1600s, and were used in the central and northern areas of Qld. In recent times, they have become surplus, with most being scrapped. Some have been sold to John Holland for use in the Philippines, while a couple of others were on loan to MIM for a while. The eighteen members of the 1600 class diesel electric locomotive were designed and constructed by the English Electric Co. at their Rocklea Brisbane, works. Two contracts were let of which the first was for twelve with a follow on contract for another six. The first batch were delivered between December 1962 and June 1963, with the others arriving between October 1963 and January 1964. A lengthy delay occurred before delivery owing to the first four being over the design weight. This resulted in numbers 1604 and 1605 being the first to enter service. All others were delivered after the weight problem had been overcome. The 1620 class diesel electric locomotive built by The English Electric Company at Rocklea in Brisbane

    Engine: EMD 8-567CR
    About:
The 1700 class are Clyde's equivalent of the 1600/1620 classes, and started off being used as branchline locos, based at Roma. Later, they were used as shunters in the Brisbane area. Their numbers are slowly declining, and the scrapping of most of the remainder of the class has now taken place.

    About:
Like the 1620 class, the 1720s had a variety of uses. These included branchline freight, suburban and mainline passenger services, and shunting work. They can be found all around Queensland. However, withdrawl, and now scrapping, of class members has begun. Overhauls have been done on 4 of the class (1734, 1764, 1771, 1774) for tourist service on the Kuranda line. This includes a special livery, which 1734, 1751, 1771 and 1774 have.

    Type: 2100 class
    Total Built: 102
    Years Build: 1970 - 1973
    Weight: 98 t (110 t rebuilds)
    Axle arrangement: Co-Co
Engine: EMD 16-645E (EMD 12-645 rebuilds)
    About:
The 2100 class was the mainstay of QR's coal haulage from the opening of the Bowen Basin lines through to electrification. After the electrification, they went on to more general freight traffic as well as the non-electrified coal lines, and now most are based in the Brisbane area or central Queensland. Initially, as each new coal mine was planned, a new batch of locos was ordered. The 2100, 2130, 2150, and 2170 classes were ordered for the Goonyella / Peak Downs, Saraji, Norwich Park, and German Creek / Oaky Creek / Riverside / Blair Athol mines respectively. The 2141 class (intially the 2200 class) was used for the Greenvale nickel mine. With the introduction of the 4000 class however, withdrawl of the 2100 class has commenced. Ten of the 2100 class have been sold to Chile. Several have also been overhauled, and a conversion program on around a dozen (including 1550 class locos) into a 2250 class has begun (starting with 2142 and 2136).

    Type: 2350 Class
    Total Built: 16
    Years Build: 1973 - 1974
    Weight: 92 t
    Axle arrangement: Co-Co
    Engine: EE 12CSVT
    About:
The 2350 were also used for export coal traffic on the Moura and Blackwater lines, as well as some general freight work. In the late 80's, they became surplus due to the electrification, and were transferred to TasRail to become their ZB class. Sixteen 2350 and 2370 class locomotives were built from 1973 for the Queensland Railways. Following mainline electrification in Queensland the locomotives became surplus to requirements and were sold to AN and shipped to Tasmania in 1987 and 1988.

    About:
The 2600 class were used almost exclusively for the Newlands and Collinsville coal mines, and were based at Pring, near Bowen. They make occasional trips south to Brisbane. The class has been rebuilt in a similar fashion to the 2300 class, for use on the Mt Isa line. This includes an increased weight, and possibly a more powerful engine. The 2600 class were withdrawn in late 2011, they were moved to Redbank Workshops awaiting sale. In May 2012 the 2600 class were sold to South Africa Railways.
