Some time ago i upgraded from 8th gen to 9th gen console. Main reason to play TSW without all the lag an stuttering. And now on TSW3 the german route Kassel- Wurzburg. Its stuttering. Also when moving the cam left right etc. So my question is; How is it possible?? How can this new TSW3 game not run smooth on a Series X???? Am i missing something here. Would like to hear from other Series X users and the performance of this route.
The problem with Kassel-Wurzburg is that framerates are constantly changing (they fluctuate wildly between 30 and 50 outside of the tunnels) whilst the train is in motion and this can make gameplay look pretty choppy when hurtling along at 155mph. From what I understand, stuttering (where the game briefly pauses) has something to do with the way in which TSW loads chunks of data but you'd probably need an official explanation on that one. Even with dynamic weather disabled and/or HD mode enabled you can't get rid of the above two so until DTG address these issues it's something you're going to have to live with. I wouldn't hold your breath on this one because even though performance issues were very briefly mentioned during the last stream they weren't even discussed as being priority....and as we have all come to expect, "not priority" is usually translated as "not at all" where TSW is concerned. They must be really embarrassed with TSW3 on consoles because on not one single occasion before or after the game's launch have they shown gen8/gen9 footage during their streams. They know (and from beta feedback have probably always known) something is amiss with the game.
Thankyou for the explanation. I guess we just have to live with it. Very very dissapointing though. I thought this was the future of Trainsim. Tsw3+ a next gen console, leaving the bugs and troubles behind. But its still messy seems.
Now that TSW2 is part installed on my Series X I had a quick go and thought that it held 60fps pretty well in the most part. The stuttering (brief pauses as AI trains approach...etc etc) was still quite obvious but I've never really found that to be as big a distraction as, say, varying framerates or those poor draw distances so I guess it's just a 'quirk' that I've learned to get on with. I guess in some respects we have to thank our lucky stars for X|S though because over on gen8 things really have gone from bad to worse. I still use my X1X at our caravan and because the holiday park has a broadband 'fair useage' policy in place I have to bring it home to refresh it's content, with TSW3 being one of those games that I intended to add this time around. Not a chance! DTG may find it acceptable to release a game which not only struggles to maintain 20-30fps but also constantly locks up or crashes, but I personally cannot lower my standards that far. 'Permanently uninstalled' is the only way forward for TSW3 on 8th generation consoles.
