Although DTG's BR 101 add-on was made before TSW3, can I still buy it without having it's native route (HRR)? I probably won't have the tutorial scenario, but that's fine.
I think you'll still have to buy it's native route, so either.. North Transpennine Tees Valley Diesel Legends of the Great Western
I think they said the DB BR 101, not the Class 101. I think you need the HRR route to make it work (but it's often on sale so you can get it pretty cheap) On the other hand, there's also the new, updated DB BR 101 that is available as a stand-alone. It's a bit more expensive, but it's not route dependent and is VERY high quality. I think it was just released this year for $40 dollars (36 Euros)
I would get that, but many routes use the original BR 101 as a layer, and I don't buy any TSW DLC at any price that's over 10€
Yeah, the "expert" one is only on 1 route native and 1 layer so far. They mentioned more in the future. Well, you should be able to get HRR on sale at some point.
That's not true. There are timetables for it on Salzburg - Rosenheim, Dresden - Riesa, Bremen - Oldenburg, and Frankfurt - Fulda.
You're literally German how do you not know that DB Class 101 is the English translation for DB Baureihe 101
Oh did they expand it since the release statement? Nice! Still not my thing, but that solves the biggest issue people had with it. Other than that it had pretty good reviews as I recall. Come to think of it, they had decent sales per Steam and good reviews, but I don't think there's been much if any discussion since the release. Usually there's either huge praise or huge criticism. It just kinda sailed through without much word either way. Edit: Looks like it substitutes on two routes Tharandter Rampfe and Kassel-Wurzberg? That's arguably as many routes as the original 101 isn't it, for total content?
So I asked a similar question not long ago. In the end I found that the German expansion bundle that was originally released on Playstation for TSW4 (HRR, SKA, 101, 187) was on sale for £24.99 so only £1 more than the Expert 101 on its own. I already owned SKA but thought this was still very good value. It was a bit of faff as I had to download the TSW4 DLC and then download the TSW4 versions in order to get it to work but worth it in the end. So if you're on Playstation it's worth checking if this is still on offer as part of the January sale.
Not sure about that, I would think it has a lot to do with what bubble you live in. The expert 101 was definitely in my bubble and I have seen quite a lot of discussion around it, however, most were in the positive direction. The biggest controversy was definitely the price. Besides, if you look at the TSW loco World Cup thread this loco is leading all other German/Austrian/Swiss locos by a margin of about 10%. This, I would think, says it all...
The expert 101 has timetables on Bremen- Oldenburg, Salzburg-Rosenheim, Dresden-Reisa( Also adds the ICE T), and Frankfurt-Fulda. And you can sub it in (with no cab car) on Tharandter Rampe and Kassel-Wurzburg.
To answer the original question, DTG has always stated that, in order to layer the original 101 onto other routes (such as DRA), you need to also have HRR installed. JD reaffirmed this for the original 101, even when the expert 101 was released. HOWEVER, ever since just before the expert 101 came out, the original 101 has layered onto other routes without needing HRR installed. I have confirmed this for DRA, HBK, and SRM. Since DTG is apparently unaware of this, future functionality is not guaranteed. This on Series S.
I think so. Since the old and new 101s freely substitute for one another, apparently the OG can be used on any route that has a layer for the Expert
Are you sure about this? The Expert timetables are set up to not allow the original BR101 to substitute. The only exception is Bremen-Oldenburg where the original BR101 will substitute on the two EZ (mixed) freight services, I didn't prevent the old BR101 from substituting here since these are not IC trains (and thus there are no compatibility issues).
