I bought Rail Simulator on Origin a few months ago. I read that there were two upgrade packs for the game (not the expansion packs) which are required for said expansion packs. I am not aware if Rail Simulator on Origin is the fully upgraded version. If not, does anybody here still have the installers for them? If so, could they please be uploaded to Archive.org? I know Rail Simulator is old but I do like preserving old games and I want to play Rail Simulator because I can. EDIT: I have found one of them. The second upgrade pack can be found here, but the first pack isn't on the web archive from what I can find. EDIT 2: Both can be found here and here. These are from Just Flight's website. EDIT 3: You'll need to use the Net Admin account to install these. It's a weird thing in Windows that it blocks these installers, it happened for my Sims 2 expansion packs for some reason. In Command Prompt (Admin) type: net user administrator /active:yes I have also uploaded both installers to the Web Archive, which can be viewed here.
I'm pretty sure Origin has the Mk1 and Mk2 patches included. (That includes the editor, serz.exe and tools iirc) Just right-click on RailSimulator\RailSim.exe to bring up the Properties, select "Version" tab. It should show version 1.2.0.0, which is the final RS version. The fact that Windows is blocking the installers is probably due to their age and not being certified for current Windows versions. I'd also check that it does not install the damn SafeDisc or SecuROM DRM software which is hard to remove again. Use a VirtualMachine to test, but then I doubt you'll be needing them anyway.
I have checked, there is no SecuROM. Also I have checked, the Origin version is 1.0. However, it seems installing the upgrades breaks the game, although it might have been me doing it wrong.
The patches are for the original Disc version only it seems. Origin must use a different RailSim.exe because the original one has that disc checking copy protection.
