Hi, I just recently bought a Raildriver for use in TSW2. I have noticed that some of the button mappings in RD seem to be a bit off sometimes. Typically the route map button (normally mapped to RD15), when it's mapped to a button (e.g. in SPG/CCS AC4400CW), doesn't work as expected. No route map is shown but the cursor seems to revert to view mode if it were previously in cursor mode. I haven't checked all the trains yet but those that I have checked seem to have the same issue with RD15=Route Map. Anyone else experiencing this? Or could it be something wrong with my newly bought Raildriver?
nowt wrong with your raildriver, it's how the buttons are mapped differently for all the trains by DTG. Have a look at this : https://docs.google.com/document/d/1Y4FuN6yC6Z1UNtCZMLaDPcDDDZTP-Ua7/edit#heading=h.4du1wux The above site is so you can print out label legends, BUT as you'll notice, almost every train is slightly different, and the little plastic nubs for hinges on the raildrivers 'button label door' can only take so many opening and closings before they break off, so don't go changing the legends too often. We really need one person from DTG to go over the raildriver button maps and change them all to a semi universal layout, I.e. all German trains have 3 PZB buttons, why are they in different places on the raildriver depending on which train you are driving? as they are the most used buttons for a German train driver, surely it'd make sense to have them in an easy to reach location, i.e. bottom row, first 3 buttons, then muscle memory will help you find them without having to look down, DTG used the muscle memory thing as an excuse not to offer lever reversing, i.e. anyone who drives European trains, the raildrivers power lever moves backwards to how it does in the train in the game and real life. It's a simple check box in the raildriver setup to reverse any lever, and pretty much all other train sims/games have it, but TSW2 they flat out refused to enable it. Then you have the different versions of the same train, as each DLC comes with essentially another version of say the BR423, so now we have 2 seperate button maps for the BR423 depending on which route your driving it on!!! things like that should not happen.
Thank you very much for the work of making all the legends. But as I mentioned in my question, the route map is not displayed when I press the RD15 button when running the AC4400CW. According to the mapping in the game settings (and your legend for that locomotive) the route map is supposed to be mapped to the RD15 button. If it works for you but not for me something must be wrong.
For the time being, until or if, DTG does a standardized mapping. I tend to use a hybrid approach with my Rail Driver. Throttle, reverser and brakes on the Rail Driver and everything else using the keyboard since it is standardized.
Good point, Sharon! Will probably do the same. I was just wondering if someone else experiencing the same issue as I do, i.e. nothing happens when I press the route map button on the Raildriver. I was also under the impression that DTG had planes on giving you the option to map the buttons on the Raildriver anyway you want. But I guess, that is still on the DTG to-do list.
reilar, I have never even tried the map button on the RD, always use the '9' key. The 'Alert' button on the RD is also iffy at times so 'q' is what I use. I should add, during cab set up, I like to use my mouse to click the various controls needed to get things ready to do the run.
must point out, i had absolutely nothing to do with the raildriver legends, that's all Cotax's amazing work. Having a scan down the trains on that document tho, there aren't many trains left with button 15 assigned to map, i know DTG are slowly changing the raildriver mapping, trying to get at least some buttons the same across all trains, and it seems that means moving the ones that change camera views, pause, HUD and so on, it seems the trains that have had the raildriver button mapping updated, what was Map on button 15 is now HUD... which moved from button 10 i think... so "map" seems to be something that's slowly being removed from the raildriver buttons. maybe... just maybe the train you chose is in the middle of having it's raildriver mapping updated... or something... i'm guessing here... i get weird things sometimes, like the keyboard combo to change cabs will sometimes teleport me under the tracks if i press CTRL and - too many times. As Sharon says, you kinda need to use the keyboard as well as the mouse whilst using a raildriver to gain access to all the controls on the trains, which can be annoying and the whole idea of the raildriver was you had all commonly used controls at your fingertips,
Yes, as it is now it seems you will have to use a combination of Raildriver/keyboard/mouse/Xbox controller. It is a shame you can't rely on the Raildriver itself as driving controller. I surly hope DTG can fix the problems with it and get the implementation done on remapping the buttons (and hopefully even the axis) by yourself. A week ago I watched a youtube video with Matt introducing the support for Raildriver. The video was dated to late 2020 and he mentioned then it was still a beta driver. But on the top of the to-do list for Raildriver was to implementing support for user remapping of the buttons. I realize that DTG has added support to many more locos since then and maybe that has been even more prioritized then adding user remapping. By the way, is this a good place to make DTG aware of issues in the game? Do they read the threads in this sub-forum or do I have to put this in the Technical report sub-forum?
We need to be able map the RD to how we want it. Fed up of having to remember where the PZB buttons are depending on which loco I'm driving (there's atleast 3 or even 4 varients)
the PZB thing is something i've been moaning about for ages, the 3 controls that are in every German train, yet on the raildriver they are either in the middle or over to one side depending on who set up the raildriver button map for that particular train (or variant of the same train!) DTG said they won't allow lever reversing, as it'd mess with your 'muscle memory'... i.e. they want it to stay with pull back to go, push forwards to stop on all trains driven with the raildriver... even when i'd guess 3/4 of the trains in the game are the opposite, Then they go and throw that idea out the window by making you have to search along the buttons for the PZB ones assigned to the particular variant of the train you're driving. if they valued this muscle memory thing, then the PZB controls firstly would be the right way around... they go: Befehl, Frei, Wachsam, from left to right (or OverRide, Release, ACK on the RD labeling) On the raildriver they have them swapped, so Wachsam/ACK is the button on the left of the 3 But for this muscle memory thing to work, they'd assign the same 3 buttons to PZB for all 29 trains that have these same controls, to me it'd make sense to have the first 3 buttons on the lower row for PZB. But in reality, what we need is the ability to re-map the raildriver buttons and controls, and give us access to all the controls on the train and let us choose the ones we want to operate from the keyboard/raildriver, some people may want a button to operate the brake release key, or the train line power switch, whilst someone else may want buttons to operate the traction motor blowers, compressor, pantograph selector etc, Everyone wants slightly different things from this game, and a good way to satisfy a lot of different people is to give them the ability to remap controls to suit them, the end user.
Yes, I agree that it would be very helpfull if DTG implemented a way of letting the user remap the buttons (and possibly the axis) in the way the user wants. I really can't understand why this wasn't done from start of the introduction of Raildriver support in the simulator. In every other simulator that I have played, it's standard to have the controls remappable by the user. In for example DCS World (combat flight simulator) you get a list of mappable actions for each and every aircraft to map to whatever control button you want. And there are a lot of planes in that simulator by now. In MSFS it's the same. Is it hard to do this in TSW2? Does it have something to do with Raildriver being an old cunstruction and lack of driver support? Why can't DTG do it in a similar way as other simulators do it? I would be pleased to know this in order to be a little more understanding of the problem that DTG faces here.
half the problem is that DTG are making TSW2 for 7+ different platforms (PC, PS5, PS4, PS4 pro, xbox 1, xbox s, xbox 1 s and so on) and only the PC can use the raildriver, they don't like producing stuff for one platform that will leave the other users out. which is probably why we still have only the raildriver listed in 'advanced controls' when there's arrows to click that should move onto assigning other controllers, like maybe throttle quadrants, hotas's and home made train driving controllers. Personally i think if they improved the immersion for PC users, by allowing access to the data to control all parts of a train with any controller we like, and get data out to run EBuLa's, MFA's/dashboards etc (i.e. the stuff we can do with train sim classic... also owned by DTG) people on the consoles might move over to the PC to take advantage of the extra features.
Hello. for my own use, I modified the configuration of the buttons and levers of the Raildriver controller for the locomotive DB BR 103. The mapping of the keys and levers is shown in the attached picture. I can upload the downloads to Trainsimcommunity.com if you are interested.
I've been emailing with Matt at Raildriver. I was basically complaining about the Raildriver functionality, mostly regarding the buttons. He told me that there is a beta version of software to add user programming ability. I want to put in my request and vote to make that happen!! Thanks... Tom Kraemer
