Good Day not that good with this inclement weather mind you but always can be sunny on a train simulator ! Quick question I have got a Raildriver coming and wanted to ask the reason why Most Armstrong Powerhouse stock is not compatible with the device ? Many thanks Rob aka Artful
It's not compatible out of the box, of course AP need to make it's perspective customers aware of this to stem the influx of "I can't get your train/pack to work blah blah" Using the right software with a RailDriver has "most" (probably all if I set it up a little better) working for me. I recommend NOT using any of the software that comes with or is suggested by PI engineering (the maker of the RailDriver) But surely the makers own software is better? No it really isn't, it is not customisable in any shape or form and this is why you can't use it "out of the box" with AP and even some JT Advanced or other more technical offerings. Have a read of this forum thread https://forums.uktrainsim.com/viewtopic.php?f=361&t=139830&st=0&sk=t&sd=a&start=705 CobraOne has developed a RailDriver and Joystick controller software which is far superior, easier to customise and much more comprehensive in it's usability, the download link for CobraOnes software is in his forum signature on the forum I have linked you.
That is brilliant thank you very much Reef ! I managed to get one for £120 and it will be with me in a few days so this makes me even more excited now as I may be able to drive the new Class 411/412 with it. Regards Rob
From my Truck sim days I have a G27 steering wheel, shifter and pedals, they were relegated to a big plastic storage container under my desk until I read one of the more recent posts from CobraOne suggesting that the pedals could be used as a DSD/DVD device, oh heck yeah I thought, I'll have me some of that! Thankfully I didn't need to plug the wheel into the mains (just the USB) so it negates the startup self calibration check everytime you start your PC so the wheel remains in the box under my desk and the pedals (well one of them at least) gets used as the footplate switch. I did think about using the wheel as the handbrake wheel found in the older loco's and MU's but there's only so much desk real estate I have available and my 34 ultrawide curved monitor and RailDriver (along with KB and mouse obviously) hog most of that, the point being though that CobraOne's software makes this all totally do-able.
You're welcome, that's what the forum is about, helping each other when and where we can. I'll be honest the RailDriver isn't the sturdiest bit of kit, it's definitely more toy quality/durability than serious enthusiast kit quality/durability, shame as it comes with a serious enthusiasts price tag though. But all in all I'm "mostly" happy with it, it definitely adds to the sim for me at least. I'm having a "springiness" issue with some of my levers and I've been meaning to ask here and possibly other forums about it, when the levers are at 0% or 100% they've started springing back a few % which can often mean the throttle won't rest below 2 or 3 % (unless I physically hold the lever in place) this is not a calibration issue this is a hardware issue.
So my raildriver has arrived do I still need to install the macroworks software first to run the calibration tests or is there something within Cobra Ones software that will allow me to do this also before I run before I can walk. Want to do things correctly from the start.
And is there any video's anywhere showing the install and set up procedures for the Cobra One Joytick software - sorry to ask all these questions again Kind Regards Artful
CobraOnes software has the calibration tests too. Not sure about the video's but as far as I can remember it wasn't complicated, I have to re-install everything from scratch myself later due to a hardware failure so I will let you know what I do once it's fresh in my mind I just have to install my new drives first (which have just arrived not 30mins ago from Amazon) and then all my TS stuff. Obviously it's gonna take me a while and I'll likely get called away by Mum 2.0 (Wife) at tea time, so if you're nocturnal like me then you'll get the info overnight, if not then you'll get it tomorrow unless you post that you've got it sorted in the mean time.
Artful Cobra one software does not need the Raildriver software and he recommends removing it prior to installing the Cobra one package.
I have sort of got everything working, I am yet to see how to correctly do the calibration its the throttle part Im not sure of as to where to calibrate around the "notch" also I need to work out / or ask how I set a button bind for the T/Load/unload. But other than that the Armstong Powerhouse 317 worked like a charm ! except the T button which I used my keyboard for in the end. I am suprised not more people know of the joystick software you gave me the link for as still loads of people think you cannot run AP products with the raildriver at all ! Regards Rob
This is the AP 317 and my Raildriver - been testing quite a few loco's tonight last run was Ebbsfleet - St Pancras Rtn in the 395.
