Does the RailDriver now work for all trains in TSW4, or is there a list somewhere? I think there used to be one for TSW2 but would like to know for UK trains in TSW4. Cheers.
Works on all TSW4 locos for me, though there's still some quirkiness with the throttle and brake controls here and there. There are some German locos I don't have and we still can't map everything as we would like. It's been in Beta for so long, I'm thinking this is about as good as it will ever get, but I can't ( don't want to ) play the game without it.
I only have UK locos and units but it works well for me on all of those. I find it significantly enhances the experience. I bought my RailDriver many years ago (pre-TSW) and for a long time barely used it, and regretted spending so much money on it. Now I’m at the point where, when it finally gives up the ghost, I’ll be buying another (although I’m also keeping an eye on tscontrollers.com which is starting to say their controllers are TSW compatible to a degree, but the key items are rarely in stock).
I wish it was also easily available in EU... or that some other manufacturer actually created sth like that... today is the world of crowdfunding, so why not? if it was good I would consider investing the money
I've had my Raildriver for over 20 years, since the early days of MSTS, and it's still going strong. Works on everything I throw at it in TSW4 and Zusi. (The only thing I don't use it for in TSW4 is the BR642 on Tharandte Rampe; for that I use an Xbox controller to accelerate and brake.) I've added a Stream Deck XL and Stream Deck Pedal to my setup, and they all play together nicely for the most part.
I’m also thinking of getting a stream deck, is it easy to find, make or download decent artwork for the buttons eg. door, key, wipers etc.
Yes it is. There's a couple of links to some icon downloads in these forums, or it's easy to make your own if you're graphically inclined. You can have as many profiles as you like, so I've got ones for German trains, GB trains, and steam.
I was looking at Rail Driver but its still expensive, would think by now there would be a few types of controllor. I just bought one off Amazon over 3 payments to make it easier. Col.
I just got the Raildriver last week from Keyboard Specialist in the UK, and using CobraOne's Raildriver and Joystick interface program I've got it calibrated nicely, although I do still find that the throttle takes a little getting used to - it's not as precise as I'd like it to be and when changing directions you definitely get some weird "dead area" before the notches start moving in-game. One thing I was disappointed about, and I don't know if it's just me as I haven't seen any mention of it, but - the stickers that you attach to the controller are terrible quality! Within a single night of play the lettering had completely scrubbed off the dynamic brake / throttle, the reverser was very worn, as was the Alert and Bell button stickers. I've since purchased a couple of spare sets, and before replacing the worn ones, I have put sellotape over the top of the printed face first, hopefully that will stop my acidic sweat from wearing them out quite so quickly!
Ty Arnold, good tip about the stickers. I've not even got the sim yet, it might arrive tomorrow or the day after, the Raildriver next week with any luck. I did try train sims a few years ago but went back to flight sim again, I still have all the disks, I got many different areas. I'm looking forward to this one though. Col.
My RailDriver must be well over a decade old, and the stickers are fine. I wonder whether they’ve changed them or there’s some other factor.
Just re-reading the above posts, I have never heard of a Stream Deck XL before, just looked and they are expensive too. Col.
yeah the dead area is why i hate the rail driver i got 2 of those things 1 has it less but both have it it was at an time i got money to spend and i thought it was just bad thing inside and did not want to sent it back for repairs if someone in The Netherlands (Noord Holland near Enkhuizen) want my oldest raildriver for free lemme know i won't mail it because that is too expensive just come and get it lol
The StreamDeck Mini is cheaper, but only has three programmable buttons. (Could be handy for PZB, though!)
For anyone who has and still is using the RailDriver like me, I have been using the mods from Roman on TSC mod pages, these are for only German trains. TSW3 & TSW4 all work well and are set as they should be IRL, and takes a bit of getting used to the difference from DTG default. I know this post is a few months old, but I came across it as I was looking for A troubleshooting thread for the Raildriver because it was part of the update/patch DTG pushed out on 05-06-2024. The main reason I was looking for such a thread is because of the update/patch that I was hoping and looking to see if any major changes were made with the Raildriver, one being it can be touchy at times, but also what I have noticed over the past months and held off saying much because of the patches and updates that had been released and thinking just maybe it would be corrected. I spent a month or so checking, about a week recording, and about a week of editing by my daughter, this has filtered down to TSW2 and TSW3, this was never an issue with TSW2 & 3 nor was it in TSW4 upon release. Please see the attached video, as to what I'm referring to. This may or not be a known issue by the players and members here on this forum, I'm unsure of this, I have not seen anyone make any mention of it nor has it been brought up by DTG. Also If this video needs to be moved to another thread, please let me know and I shall do so.
A small update to my post, I just spent a fair bit of time double-checking my TSW4 Game, See the image below, I removed Every mod I have installed and ran the same test as shown in the video I posted in this thread. and the same issue still exists with the low horn toggle with the Raildriver. The image below does not include another 13 mods that I'm doing a contract & compare and have them disabled and one other that I have yet to hear from the mod author and how it integrates with the Raildriver. The bottom line is be it with or without mods installed and calibrating the Raildriver from within the game does work but somewhere with the file(s) that hold the code/script for the calibration info is crisscrossed with the horn and lights.
I know that with my TS Classic Raildriver and Joystick interface that, if you had Macroworks running, even minimized, it would interfere with my program. I would try exiting Macroworks by right clicking the icon in the system tray and selecting exit and trying your tests again The reason I suggest this is that even while Macroworks is minimized, it is still reading your raildriver and trying to send commands to the PieHid64.dll in TSW. Also, my raildriver does not exhibit your problem whether i'm using my program or not.
I will give that a go and see how everything works, ironically that is the one thing I did not try, I do appreciate the reply and the assistance, onward forward to doing more investigative work
After doing more testing and finding out that I spent more time than I should have. I will be making a video correction to the video linked here that will be archived, or maybe turn it into a learning experience kind of video, It turned out to be one(1) small single setting within the Macroworks program that I did not notice. Talk about feeling like: The Error on My Part Spoiler Now even with Macroworks running in the background, all is working as it should. Maybe I should have learned more about coding and scripting when I was younger. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
