I'm currently reading this book https://www.amazon.com/Life-Old-Railways-Tom-Quinn/dp/1446300668 While not aimed at railway enthousiasts, it is a very good read. Any other recommendations?
Paul Holland's "My Life as a Rear End" is a fantastic read if you're interested in personal experiences from a railroader. https://www.amazon.com/Life-Rear-Me...815&sprefix=MY+LIFE+AS+A+REAR+E,aps,77&sr=8-1 Paul retired as a conductor from Metro-North and his writing style makes you feel as if you're in the room with him as he shares his stories.
I had an excellent book about lost stations which is in a box somewhere now, in actual fact I have a few books which are bloody good reads. I think I'll have to dig some out when I'm next in the loft.
“All Aboard!” By Julian Holland is a great choice, especially about learning how he got from (I think) Gloucester to Lyme Regis by changing around 5 times! Just for a holiday mind you!
