Has anybody else been trying out RE 2? I've been trying it out on xbox game pass and it seems pretty good so far. I never played the first one so don't have any reference to how it was.

It feels like it has a very steep learning curve and it's definitely made my head hurt a few times trying to get my track layout how I want it, but it's worth it when you sit back and watch the network working efficiently. The tutorial is pretty awful I ended up stuck a few times with it not explaining what I needed to do properly, but I'm slowly getting the hang of it.

Let us know your thoughts if you've tried it out!

Any vehicle slower than my grandma is not of interest to me.

Yeah been playing it on PS5 having played through the original on PS4
I know what you mean about the learning curve though because some things have changed from the original. I covered it on release day below and I am as confused as everyone lol. I also noticed during the tutorials that if you didn't place a station just right then by the next tutorial the game had re-aligned it to the proper place. That def confused me

Been watching a few vids and can't decide. I noticed one youtuber placed a single track station and then afterwards wanting another track but did not know how to do it. How do you do it? I'm on PC but imagine it can't be that different is it?

I'm about 30 hours in but it's starting to get a bit boring now because aside from some QoL improvements (some of which imo dumb things down just a little too much) it's basically more of the same. Granted, Gaming Minds did say that RE2 was never going to make radical inroads but nonetheless, it wouldn't have hurt them to be a little more creative with the end product.

    The things I particularly dislike:
    (1) No option for manual signalling. Having to double-track evrything (or rely on guesswork to fathom the correct length of a passing loop for signals to be auto-placed) just clutters up the network with needless tracks.
    (2) Acelerated time. London > Edinburgh in 45 days (etc etc).
    (3) Missinhg features. The random map editor as well as community challenges have vanished and game evolution now stops at 1910 so you're kind of stuck with slow moving steam trains and cities that forever look like a scene from Rawhide.
    (4) Train breakdowns are just too overkill....even when changing the setting to make them have a compulsory service at the end of a long journey.

It is slightly better than the butchered and way, way too hand-holdy console version of Transport Fever 2 but there's just no long term appeal if, like myself, you hammered RE1, so I'm probably going to grab 1-2 more achievements and wrap things up with a 'middle for diddle' 500g.
