I have only got 8gb single channel ram. My mate has 2 x 8gb sticks he is going to give me he has just upgraded his PC. Just wondering if anyone on her upgraded from single 8gb to duel 8gb and how much difference it will actually make? I am guessing quite a bit of difference.

It actually depends, but these days it's big.
The OS itself has a lot of services running, consuming plenty of memory for a start. In my case, about 4 GB.
Then you have browser, antivirus, gaming client... Easily adding up to 8 GB already. Some of it can be stashed, so 5-6.
Games like to cache their assets, and the reason for upgrading TSC from 32 to 64 bits was to improve its space from 2-4 GB to more.

Even though some companies sell laptops with just 8 GB RAM today, 16 GB is a staple.
If you are using your PC seriously, 24-32 can be easily argued, too.

Sometimes you don't see much of a difference, especially with SSD, but I'm sure it will be smoother.

I don't know why I never bothered getting more ram, I brought the laptop knowing I need it but never did. I got an ssd as it only came with a 250gb hard drive.

Do make sure the RAM is compatible with your system before you get the screwdrivers out !

I upgraded from 16 to 32GB of RAM and didn't see any noticeable improvements in performance. Crashes seem to be less than before but around the same time there were some major updates to the game which improved how stable it was anyway.

It also depends what is going on in the background, how many processes are running. Memory is shared. I am currently running 32 GB of memory. Memory is/used to be cheap so I have purchased it on sale. Nice to have more than you will ever need. Again make sure it is compatible with your system.

IMHO 8GB stopped being enough for Windows some while before 2020. 16GB is probably enough for most things at the moment.

As already mentioned make sure the RAM is compatible with your computer. It has to be the same specification as what you already have and make sure you put them in the correct slots.

I went absolutely overkill with my new PC in hopes of making TSC run as good as possible. I got 64GB of RAM. I think it has made things slightly better but I can’t be 100% sure if it is had a very large effect to be honest but I very very rarely ever have Out of Memory issues running my 4K top graphics setup with a million graphics enhancements so it does its job.

Like what others are saying I reckon 16-32GB is probably your best bet; my 64GB choice on my PC is quite over the top if I’m honest and most likely unnecessary! :D
