A layer/texture that will be randomly added to rolling stock.
The dirt sticking to the loco/cars while driving is certainly cool, and judging by other games, it is quite possible to implement.
But I also agree to static random dirt that will be placed on the rolling stock at the start of the service. Several different layers from slightly dirty to completely filthy. Just a random roll of the dice and you will get one of this or none at all. Also for AI trains.
This will add variety to the appearance of the trains and some additional realism portion.

Agree, rarely do trains run squeaky clean even after going through the washer.
However there is the possibility some of the train companies might not want to see their rolling stock plastered with dirt in the game. Though in the case of freight, particularly US, I doubt cleaning cars and containers is a high priority - was watching Tulsa King last night and there happened to be a quick shot of a BNSF freight passing and the loco was absolutely filthy and weather stained.

Tsw definitely looks to clean. Especially some of the older routes when the railways generally weren't cleaned at all!
Battered wagons is another one I would like to see. Some of the freight trains that pass by, the wagons look like they have been chewed up and spat out.

They can make their DTGX boxcars and hoppers dirty with some graffiti. They did it a little bit with the two bay hoppers but that’s it really.
