Well I picked this up in the sale and already thinking of refunding. The Class 1442 Talent is dead quiet in the cab, no traction sound, no rail sound. Surely this can't be correct? Are there any known issues with this unit? You can't even open the windows to bring in some of the external sound and the cab doors must be shut to take power.

I don't remember it being almost silent but it isn't as good sound wise as the SKA Talent, not without completely gutting and redoing it.

Refund requested, If it comes through in time I'll get the 101 instead.

Sound is not good on this unit. You have to bear in mind that this was the second TSW route ever made, and the way they set up the trains was completely different. This has caused the sounds to be pretty bad ever since the port to TSW2, and even though the preservation crew improved (or tried to) the sound already.
You can't open the windows on any 442 in this game, not the 1442 and not any of the other 442, I dont know if that is realistic to reallife though.

Additionally, pzb is currently broken on the 1442 as it is autamtically selecting the wrong pzb mode, the one that would be used for heavy freight trains.

This dlc has issues, and especially the pzb issue needs to be fixed, because otherwise the route is not that bad. The preservation crew added a whole new secondary timetable that makes use of more of the by now available rolling stock.

I can fully understand you refunding it though.

As I already wrote before, Rapid Transit in TSW2 is basically unusable right now, Talent2 is almost silent, and 182 has also many sound and visual bugs, so you are left with no loco whatsoever to drive there. And it is not caused by RT being one of the first routes released, is it perfectly fine in TSW2020. DTG please fix this finally!

If the train ever gets a remake or they layer in other units on the S services then I would take another look. The route itself and indeed the 1442 units themselves look good, but the audio was like being in one of those soundproof rooms where they do a hearing test. I really can’t understand why DTG continue to cuss up so badly on sound. Here we have a high fidelity sim with great graphics and gameplay but the sounds so often suck. It’s a bit like buying the latest movie on 4K disc but finding it only comes with a mono soundtrack. Or in the case of the 1442, just subtitles!
IMHO Paul Jackson needs to get involved with this and instigate some serious changes in the sound department.

Despite it's already being patched by the reservation crew, this route has several issues and one of this is the sound of the Talent which is far worse than the Talent of SKA or DRA.

Exactly, I still do not understand why they simply do not copy the sound profile from these working models onto the RT one. Even if it would not be perfect due to slightly different models, anything would be better than what is there right now, i.e. silence.

They did, and apparently it sounded horrific. It's not because it's a different model - it's because the way the two trains use sounds are very different - they'd need to completely gut it and completely build the sound set-up from scratch. They frankly could've (and did) spent that time on other things and make the T2 sound at least a bit better than it did before.

I should perhaps say I'm probably not the best person to ask because I can hear the (apparently silent) 314 sounds very well with the cab window shut. I've not driven the RT Talent for a while (mainly due to the PZB bug) but, again, I don't remember it being silent.

RT has also other issues such track rendering which is horrible. It should need another revision by the reservation update, but it won't happen.

They changed it to the new system though didn't they?

I don't know tbh. The only thing I know there's no other route where track rendering is so bad.
