This is the last German route I need been put of buying people say it wasn't any good for a number of reasons. Have been fixed now and is it a good route what layers into it. Thanks for your help.
Nothing's been touched on the thing for years, it's still a dog. Bad and buggy EMU, bad and buggy signalling. Buggy mastery reward. You can also only really drive three things on its timetables, the bad 1442, the DB 182 (or 143) and its Dosto cab car. You can very rarely see (and not drive) some ICE3s. Reasons to own I can list are: can be found for cheap, completionism, the underground tunnel section is still rather unique and cool, a bit of the route even has LZB(!), the DB 182 that you can get for it (and that unlocks use of it as general passenger loco in most other timetables!) is, afterall, always a 182 and those are awesome.
Ancient route. No huge reason to buy it other than it allows you to get the DB 182 which then can layer into other German routes, but that means a separate purchase and it’s also an older era loco now not my first choice to actually drive.
The route scenery is quite nice and for this one DTG weren't afraid of going sub surface. However the 1442 is awful sound wise. Virtually no traction hum or whine audible in the cab and zero track noise. Feels like you are floating along. Buy only in a deep, deep sale.
Same! I always tell people learning PZB pick one route, one train, one service and keep repeating it until you learn from every mistake and signal.
Dresden Riesa can be quite a challenge for this, especially around Dresden. I learned PZB on Maintalbahn. Nice and easy
I have stopped using this route and deinstalled it. No freight, no layers (except for the 182 loco DLC available for it and a lone AI ICE at Bitterfeld), no IC/EC/ICE services in the Leipzig area, no static stock, strange behaviour of the 1442 in double traction, Leipzig Hbf not modelled.
In my honest opinion, while this route is very old by TSW standards, if you can appreciate that fact then it's not as bad as some say. Yes, it may feel rather lifeless, has no service variety etc. But, I actually still play this route quite often and is very enjoyable with the 182 - even the shorter 143 services are relaxing. Also, there's even the occasional AI ICE 3 traffic too which is a nice touch. Finally, the scenery actually looks quite decent too for an older route. Rapid Transit is a route that really deserves a remaster with a proper timetable upgrade - it would be epic!
Just remember it was the first German route, and the 1442 was the first electric train in the whole game. It was iirc the second DLC released for the game ever.
True, a remaster would be extremely nice. Maybe then the nagging issue with the BR 1442 could be fixed. The second unit does not seem to take power at all.
Rapid Transit was the first German route for TSW, released in 2018. Although it received a revision in 2021, it is still very incomplete in terms of scenery and traffic. I still enjoy playing this route, as I often traveled from Dessau Hbf to Berlin, and a branch line leads to my hometown in Saxony-Anhalt. A highlight is definitely the tunnel passage under Leipzig. A lot of effort was put into faithfully rebuilding the individual underground stations and equipping them with light baking separately in UE4. Above ground, Leipzig is unfortunately a virtual lost place. Especially at the main station, there should be as much rail traffic as in Frankfurt/Main. But that would be too much effort for this old add-on.
If Joethefish could do his magic there, it could become a brilliant route again. Like Frankfurt-Fulda or the upcoming Cologne-Aachen.
I think they concentrate a little less on new routes and bring some of the older routes to life again with a remaster i certainly would appreciate that.
Currently completing journeys is not possible. I raised a ticket for this in 2024 but got this response last May - Ticket Closed - Derailment after leaving Platform 1 at Connewitz on Rapid Transit - 67791 It is a significant bug, probably a bounding box issue that I believe was fixed previously, but came back again. They've just done nothing with it :-( A rework of the route would be worthwhile. There are options for some freight services (auto transport, logistics, etc.) due to there being sidings that could be made accessible. But at this moment in time it should not be sold as it is not fit for purpose when trains derail every time.
The one thing I can never understand is why this ancient and flawed route/train is still being sold at the original full price? It doesn’t even get a discount in the current PS sale having just checked.
I actually didn't mind Rapid Transit (I even completed all of the original timetable for the TSW2 achievement) but the only thing wrong with it was if you drove in snow it was impossible to get the train up a couple of those underground station inclines from a standing start.....you had to reverse as far as allowed then floor it and hope the train had enough momentum to reach the summit.
I did fire it up yesterday evening but quit after about five minutes. Just no tactile feel at all to the 1442. Will probably untick in my DLC list and delete the pak file later.
