Was driving the Z20500 and it’s always nice to go under the Eiffel Tower:

Here's a nice drone video of the newly opened flyover track on the CTA Brown Line, which is intended to relieve congestion at the intersection where it separates from the Red Line.
    https://twitter.com/Keenan_McCarthy/status/1461707611443798023

One significant impediment to completing the project as planned was the Vautravers Building, a 127-year-old three-story apartment building that has historic status and couldn't be demolished. So what do you do? Simple--you just jack up the entire 1000-ton building and slide it out of the way. Here's a time-lapse video of the move:
    https://twitter.com/CTARPM/status/1422672300365725699

Fun fact: Five AC4400CW locomotives weigh about as much as the Vautravers Building.

Taken today. An overview of Clapham Junction taken from when I was standing on Platform 12 if I remember correctly shortly after I disembarked from a Class 377. Elsewhere I saw one of the special Thameslink Class 700s, what a beauty!

I have 2000+ photos and videos of trains saved on my computer, think it's about time I start sharing some of them.

Here's a shot of 800022 and 802020 at Reading on the 9th of July 2021. 802020 is sporting a special livery on honour of key workers across the country. This was taken during my first proper trainspotting trip since the pandemic and it felt good to be back taking photos. Despite being on a route I know like the back of my hand, this was actually the first time I had spent multiple hours at Reading. In the past I had only ever changed trains there.

Here's a shot of 180109 which I took at Doncaster on the 10/02/2020. This would be the last time I saw a 180 in service with Hull Trains, and subsequently the last time I saw one in the beautiful dynamic lines livery. Hull Trains were transitioning over to Class 802s around this time so when I saw this one pulling in I dashed across the platform to get a picture of it.

Here's a photo taken more locally compared to my previous two. This is 150229 at Pontypridd on 29/01/2019. Living in Merthyr, Pontypridd is one of those stations that I pass through very frequently but seldom actually use. On this occasion I was travelling to Trehafod (first stop on the Treherbert branch) to attend a Transport for Wales career fair. I was surprised at how out of the way such an event was- one would think they'd prefer a place like Cardiff or Swansea. I guess it was the only place where they could secure a venue.

TfW have 150s all over their network, and they tend to shuffle them about quite a lot. A few months later I would see the exact same unit at Wolverhampton of all places, coupled up to a 158 working a long distance Birmingham- Holyhead service.

The 5550's a completely new build, not a restoration. When the Pennsy dieselized, ALL of the original T-1's got turned into razor blades, hence the T-1 Trust's construction of a completely new, and improved, T-1.

The Class 185s are some of my favourite DMUs in service in the UK, and here's one of the best photos I've taken of them. This is 185122 at Manchester Piccadilly on the 16/09/2019.
Manchester Piccadilly is one of my all time favourite places to trainspot at. There's so much variety there and I never get tired of it.

Here's an interesting shot: A broken down, stalled AC4400CW waits for another engine to come pick it up at the top of Donner Pass...and it's delivering new siemen's cars to the Midwest! 20200829_120708.jpg

While I still loathe the GWR green livery, I do admit it looks at least tolerable in bright sunlight, as demonstrated in this shot of 387166 at Didcot Parkway on the 28/01/2020, having just worked a local service from London Paddington.
I had started the day doing some shopping in Cardiff, before having a trip to Swindon as I had never bothered spotting there before. I soon discovered why however and before long I was bored, so I made the short hop to Didcot which was much more entertaining. I THEN decided to have a trip over to Oxford as it was quite cheap for a ticket and the journey was less than 15 minutes. It ended up being a very fun day.

Was at a very wet Redhill (as you see on London Commuter) this morning and was nice to see the GWR services:

    IMG_20211229_124315.jpg
Taken from Platform 0, this GWR Class 165 departs for Reading. Behind it on the same platform was a Southern Class 377/1.

    IMG_20211229_124859.jpg
Here we see a Thameslink Class 700 heading towards London, while in the distance a Southern Class 377 heads to Reigate.

I really do hope one day that Thameslink comes to TSW 2, some great looking rolling stock!

Went to Florida recently to visit family and found two steam engines less then an hour apart. I only have a picture of one. For those who don't want to scroll up here is one of two. IMG_20211224_152139989.jpg

This is 221110 at Milton Keynes Central on the 19/11/2019. It's so strange to think that this livery has now been consigned to history. Even after Arriva took over Cross Country services in 2007 I feel like Voyagers remained somewhat synonymous with the Virgin brand.

Here's a slightly wonky shot (demonstrating why I could never be a professional photographer) of 43295 at Stevenage, on the 08/12/2018. I really miss seeing HSTs on the ECML, I think they looked fantastic in this livery, probably one of my favourites they've ever worn.
This date is notable in my diary, not for this trip to Stevenage, but because it was the last time I ever got a HST from Cardiff to Paddington. From that point onwards it was just 800s, and it's never quite felt the same since.

This is 195104 at York on the 30/09/2021. I really like these new DMUs. They're fast and quick accelerating, and they have quite comfortable and clean interiors. I still think I slightly prefer Turbostars though.

York is a strong contender for my favourite railway station (it's between there and London Paddington). There's plenty of variety, and of course the station itself is absolutely magnificent, on top of being in one of my favourite cities in the UK.

Here's a picture of 168216 at London Marylebone on the 4/1/2020. In my opinion Marylebone is perhaps the most underrated of all the London Termini. It's very charming and beautiful in it's own subtle way.

I really love the Chiltern Mainline, as well as the line to Aylesbury via Amersham. I really hope we see either or both of them in TSW2 at some point. The 166 isn't too far off Chiltern's 165s, and I would love to see Chiltern's 168s in the game. In my opinion they're the best in the Turbostar family. Nice livery, comfortable and classy interior, they're very pleasant trains to ride.

The (fake) engine and coaches from the recent Ken Branaghn Murder on the Orient Express have been installed at the West end of Bassenthwaite lake on the site of the original station of the Cockermouth, Keswick and Penrith line as a tea rooms and restaurant. Highly recommended anyone that get up to the lakes pays it a visit! IMG-20220115-WA0010.jpg IMG-20220115-WA0008.jpg IMG-20220115-WA0006.jpg IMG-20220115-WA0007.jpg IMG-20220115-WA0002.jpg

On a surprisingly sunny 11/2/2020, here is 156403 at Nottingham. The sunlight really highlights what I think is a beautiful livery. The 156s are definitely my favourite member of the Sprinter family. I couldn't really tell you why though. I've just always loved them. It could be because I have family living in the East Midlands, and seeing as 156s are common in the area I've always associated them with some feeling of family.
