So I’ve currently had this on BML and NTP.

My example is from BML though:

I finish arriving into HHE platform 1 with the return freight to Acton. When I’ve stopped, the menu appears asking if I’d like to continue in free roam, or return to menus etc.

I select continue to Free Roam, then proceed to uncouple the loco from the wagons. I do this, and the game doesn’t recognise that I’ve uncoupled and the starter shunt dummy remains on. Similarly, when I’ve then decided to choose another service such as a 166 from Gatwick to Redhill, then pick up the service to Reigate, the signal is still red and remains red even though I’ve been waiting 10 odd minutes.

With regards to these services, I have been able to continue on the timetable chain, but I had to sit in the correct driver's seat and get the "this service starts at" notice in the top left before it allowed me to continue.
Without knowing what you're intention is the game won't recognise that you uncoupling the wagons is part of an instruction, and indeed if you then sit in the seat it will likely instruct you to uncouple them as that's the first instruction it's coded to do, so you'd have to recouple them, then uncouple again

Not sure on the 166, but again I would imagine you need to be in the right train at the right time and in the right seat with the controls at default for the timetable to kick in
