After successfully completing an uncoupling of the two front locos from 63 vehicles, I'm directed to head forward 632 yds. No matter how I complete setting the train in the forward direction, regardless of brake settings (all brake pressures are normal), as soon as the throttle is applied, the HUD indicates Red Lockout Indicator, and brake pressure drops. I cannot release/recharge the automatic brakes and eliminate the lockout indicator. Is there a way to avoid this after uncoupling?
I'm unable to recall everything, but I think the brakes on the BNSF SD40-2 are misbehaving in certain scenarios/services. ( Been on a scenario/service where you deliver the cement hoppers to an 'L' shaped siding ). The way I did it was to leave the Cutout in Freight and MU-2A in Lead ( in both locos. ) and Auto. & Ind. brakes to release in the trailing loco.
If you are running with the safety systems enabled (alerter), you're potentially getting a PCS Lockout due to the sudden drop in pressure when you couple - you'll need to do a PCS reset procedure (reverser neutral, throttle to zero, auto brakes to emergency, wait 2 minutes, then try releasing the brakes). Matt.
Perhaps TSW can be adjusted to the Run 8 system where you open the angle LOVE to half until the flow rate drops? Though usually I still manage to blow out the PCS by being too quick to fully open the LOVE!
I find it funny you cant say angle you know what on the forums, even though thats the legal name for the valve.
Maybe that's why angle love operation isn't supported in TSW. AFAIR Derail Valley also requires you to manually open the angle love on both coupled portions, albeit without the half position.
We simulate angle taps in the simugraph and they open / close automatically currently - what we dont have the is the manual operation of them currently with animations and interactives. It's something that I want to do at some point, the problem is retrofitting to old stock would be a huge job
Thank you, Matt, for the suggestion. Although I did try the full reset procedure, including the wait time, I did not see any change in BC and BP gauges nor a clearing of the Red Lockout indicator after concluding the procedure. I was actually able to clear the lockout by opening then closing the Electronic Devices Fuse and closing then opening the Warning Devices Fuse, returning them to their pre-error positions. I don't know if that was cheating or ill-advised in real life, but it worked in the game, and I then could release the brakes and proceed on my way. It is the only time I needed to do that during any of the uncoupling or coupling procedures. Thanks!
Hmm ok so I just ran this myself (admittedly in dev build as I am not on the release branch at the moment) and coupling up to the cars in the first place didn't cause a problem - I use indepedant to slow the locos down, coupled around 2mph and there was no problem. Did the uncouple, and then pulled forwards - you're pulling against one hand brake so it needs a little more power but works fine. I then drove back in to the other wagons again a bit more roughly this time *ahem* and still no issue. I whacked it in emergency and PCS lit up. Reverser to neutral, leave auto in emergency, independent to full, throttle to zero, dynamic to zero. left it 2-3 minutes (I had a phone call so didnt track exact time) and then pulled auto out of emergency, PCS cleared immediately and i'm good to go now. Can you see if manual emergency through the auto brake works better for you or if you cant reset that PCS either?
Matt, I tried all the steps you suggested, and it still did not allow me to move without opening and closing the switches. I've attached a video of the steps I took, which includes the waiting time while the auto brake was in emergency. Am I missing something that will not necessitate manipulating the switches?
Thanks for the video - looks like a differnt thing to PCS yes. I've forwarded it to the loco set up team!
Ok the root cause is your main res has gotten way too low and there's a lockout if that happens, so that part is correct behaviour atleast. I'm unclear how your MR has gone down that low though, the compressor should keep it topped up. Have you knocked off the electronic devices fuse (which would turn off the compressor) ? Try again and keep an eye on the main res, it should stay between around 120 and 140 with the compressor kicking in to charge it back up. Matt
I understood some of those words Spoiler (Said in jest! I appreciate your knowledge and willingness to help out with issues like this, and it shows your enthusiasm for the game and product that goes beyond what one would normally expect of a software company)
Ah ok! I will repeat the tasks up to that point and watch the MR. When I coupled just before I was instructed to uncouple, I was only going 2-3 mph, so I don't think I slammed the carriages together too hard. And there were no other issues before or after that point. I'll play through it again and see if it repeats from playing from the start. The video is from playing from a saved point, but the original issue was from a game with no saving to that point.
Matt, I was not able to reproduce the issue when I returned to the same point from playing the game from the beginning. Barstow-away played as expected throughout for me. Thanks for your suggestions anyway!
Keep an eye on the MR ("Main Res") if it happens again - if it's below about 120 go and check to see if the Electronic Devices switch has become turned off somehow and if it has, turn it on and you should hear the compressor kick in and MR go up to 140 - and at some point, the interlock will release. MR should operationally be between 120 and 140 - below 120 and somethings not working
