So I had this case recently (twice) that on the route Kassel-Würzburg around 5km before Fulda (->direction Würzburg) I happened to approach a yellow signal at 250km/h. First SPAD was fairly on me, since I didn't act quickly enough. The second time I was actually even slower, with only 220km/h and I was sort of prepared, though to be fair, I did not think it was going to happen again, since this time I was not that much too early in schedule as last time. So I once again see this yellow signal and as soon as I only get the blink of it I hit the emergency brake. The problem is, it still wasn't enough and I was still at around 100-130km/h when I passed the red signal.
I have had a few SPAD so far, I am with level 18 still new to game but this one I feel is not entirely my fault. At this point I have reached the point where I would have hit the breaks anyway due to being close (at such speed that's what you have to consider it) to the next station and I would have hit the brakes anyway, just not an emergency brake, like I had to.
Now, I want to know, how do I know when such signals approach without turning on the HUD/next signal aspect because I feel like on highspeed tracks random red signals are something where you can't just possible brake in 1-2km. If you do the math, at such speed the train needs far longer for a full stop so I don't see what I can do differently (except turning on next signal aspect etc which I don't want to, since it ruins the realistic experience) to prevail something like this.
Highspeed trains are NOT build to do a full stop in short distances because usually if you are on a track where you are allowed to hit more than 200 there's almost no situations where you would have to. If the yellow light showed sooner there would be a chance but if it shows about 1km before the red light that's just not enough time to stop.
Is there something I could have done to prevail such a situation? Obviously next time I will approach this exact position with a far slower speed but other than that, I mean, theoretically this can happen to you anywhere on a highspeed track where you least expect it.
Was that just bad luck or should you slow down in general when you notice you're running too early? Even if it's just around 3-5min which frankly being 3min early means to me as little as being 5min late, speaking of reality, here in Germany we're used to late trains.

Take a bit of time and look in the settings for what you can turn on and off for the HUD if you rather not use expert HUD settings, you can use CTRL + 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7 and I think 8 its been a while that I used them all. other than CTRL + 1, 4 and 5 -> turns off the speedometer. Use the Track monitor HUD element top right side.

That's completely true. That's why for speeds above 160 km/h, cab signalling (LZB) is mandatory. You'll need to enable that, or the HUD, or keep your speed to no more than 160 km/h if you want to follow the signals.
