Has DTG ever re-done an old route to bring it up-to-date for the more modern computer systems ? I can imagine they prefer not to do that because a lot of people already having the old route might not buy the new route. On the other hand they already have the basic route and it might be a lot less work than creating a whole new route. An example of such a route could be the world famous Horseshoe Curve which is almost 10 years old.
Someone can correct me if I'm wrong, but I do not believe DTG has revamped older routes before. It would be nice if they did so for some of the more popular legacy routes like HSC or Cajon Pass, though.
Add WCML North to that. Given these routes were made before erasements and google maps overlay, it might be easier to build them from scratch rather than attempt to relay all the track accurately and swap out all the kuju assets. Although DTG did do this with the old PDL, with assistance from DPSimulation I believe.
I'm only aware of Donner Pass getting a major makeover for the same track plan and era, and that was to deal with the extensive bugs and hostile customer reaction when first launched. Woodhead in Blue and PDL could be seen as new variants as the route coverage changed and for Woodhead the era as well.
If they updated an old route it would break it for the people that own it So it has to be a Stand Alone route like Woodhead BR Blue And - would it sell as - you would need to add a lot more to it to get people interested. On the German Train Sim sites there are a number of route upgrades and most of these create another version of the default route which makes two routes for people to make scenarios for.
Well a makeover for S&D would be quite nice, better track and throw in an extension to Bournemouth West, I'd buy it.
I have just discovered one on UKTS, I think it has the same track but goes to Bournemouth and seems to have custom station signs for south of Templecombe. From first glance it looks to be better detailed.
I'm pretty sure the NEC New York-Philadelphia got an upgrade for similar reasons to Donner Pass. I'd like to see the 'original ten' routes remastered, those being: Great Western Main Line - JustTrains has made the Western Mainline which covers most of the route in a more modern setting, but it is so large it runs very poorly on most machines. East Coast Main Line (Newcastle to York) - I don't think there are any upgraded versions of this route, but there are modern versions of it available. Somerset And Dorset Joint Railway Cajon Pass - Not available in Europe, so this might be difficult. I believe there is an upgraded version on the Workshop, but it requires Stevens Pass, which is not available in Europe as well. Hagen to Siegen Hedborough North - A version of this route is available on the Workshop, but is unchanged from the original version. Castle Rock Railroad - A version of this route is available on the Workshop, but is unchanged from the original version. Seebergbahn (a true hidden gem) - A version of this route is available on the Workshop, but is unchanged from the original version. There is an upgraded version of the Workshop release of this route, also available on the Workshop. TestTrak - Included with many versions of Train Simulator, then removed and (I believe) made a separate DLC for a little while, before being removed completely. I always liked the route, despite its simplistic scenery, as it was a good place to test trains. Isle Of Wight - A DLC for Rail Simulator that strangely wasn't made part of the base package like Cajon Pass was. There are some 'reinterpretations' of the route on the Workshop and elsewhere, which are fun, but there are no upgrades that I know of for the original route. The Isle Of Wight is also the route that I believe aged the best out of all of these, mostly down to using a custom 3D track model (amazingly, very few routes in TS use 3D track) and custom station assets - the Kuju station textures did not age well at all.
-Cajon Pass Modernized, it requires Stevens Pass, not Marias (Not that it makes a difference) https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=722868406 -There's also Cajon Mojave Alpha on Railworks America, which I like alot better, since in covers alot more of the area, plus Cajon Pass is designed alot more realistic than the other 2 versions. (Unfortunately it also requires Stevens Pass) http://railworksamerica.com/index.p...11:cajon-pass-alpha&catid=20:route-collection
It is ok having all these nice ideas of routes that could be updated but as DTG would not make much money but would cost them time and effort to complete these updates where is the incentive for them to do the work?
