The line Connects central Milan to the city of Domodossola, the line will approach Lake Maggiore with breathtaking views.
It is completely electrified at 3000 V direct current and is double track. From Cuzzago to Domodossola the line runs alongside the Domodossola-Novara single track line: the Cuzzago and Vogogna Ossola stations, currently simple stops, have always been independent but very close facilities (the two Vogogna stations are mirror-image and the two entrances are just a few meters apart, one in front of the other) as far as the jurisdictions are concerned they are both under the Milan compartment, while the two lines meet in a single system in the Premosello-Chiovenda and Domodossola stations. Between the end of the 1990s and the early 2000s, the railway section between Premosello-Chiovenda and Domodossola was affected by works to adapt the upper limit gauge of the tunnels along the route, dating back to the opening of the line: on that occasion the freight and passenger traffic was diverted onto the Novara line up to Premosello station, from where it resumed its normal route.
This railway line is 153 km long, with 7 stops (Milano Centrale-Rho Fiera-Busto Arsizio-Gallarate-Sesto Calende-Arona-Stresa-Verbania Pallanza-Domodossola) and with a travel time of 1 hour and 40 minutes.

The train that uses the line is the ETR Rock electric train. These are electric trains for regional services, built in compositions of 4, 5 or 6 cars, with a double-deck configuration. In the two shorter versions, traction is carried out by the front and rear cars, while in the six-element version, in order to maintain performance unchanged despite the larger dimensions, one of the intermediate bodies is also motorized. They can reach a maximum speed of 160 km/h and a maximum acceleration of 1.10 m/s². There can be room for around 1,400 people on board, with over 700 seats in the longest composition, the train uses the Trenord livery that he uses colors bianco-verde brillante-blu.
The Rocks are equipped with access located directly on the lowered floor and a staircase for climbing to the upper floor located on the intermediate level, a different solution compared to other double-decker trains already in service in Italy, where the access staircase to the upper floor is located on the low floor for quicker boarding of passengers.
