Having a few runs on London Commuter and have come to the conclusion that the 09 in the yard at Brighton station is the most useless loco in the game! It sits there in Brighton wasting memory and rendering resources when it's totally pointless! Other that freight and single loco railtours it cannot couple to anything else in Brighton, the 313, 377 & 387 all have couplers that the 09 can't connect to so it might as well not be there! Maybe if we had a Brighton in the 60's pack ( that could be used on BML & ECW) the 09 would be right but in London Commuter it's completely out of place!
It's because the loco already exists for the WSR route. It's in BML as an Easter Egg more than anything.
Dtg made a nice "static" element with the 09. You can uninstall wsr to remove it. By the way this isnt a fictional placement. If your memory makes trouble i recommend to upgrade, this little shunter isnt making a difference.
Not disagreeing that the only reason the train is there is for scenery (and thus taking up some memory), but the train was used into 2001 for the loco hauled Virgin XCountry services... Seems meridian#2659 has posted a pic of this already (second of the pictures above)
But as pointed out in my post there are no loco hauled passenger trains into Brighton in the game and there are very few freight workings around Brighton in game too so while the 09 might be prototypical it's is completely pointless in game!
That (as one of Rivet's collectibles) caters to the arcade side of things, and (collectables in general) also encourages people to explore the in-game world. Not everyone takes the game as a full-on simulator, and they are optional...
The 09 is a tribute to the 09 that was based at Lovers Walk, It even has the same number. It's a nice little fun Easter egg and tribute. Especially to any Brighton staff who may play the game.
