Since the release of Train Sim World, we have got an issue. We've got two games with similar names (and not even a number to distinguish them, as the only difference is the word 'World'. Therefore, to distance itself from Dovetail's flagship IP, TSW, I suggesting returning Train Simulator (2020) to its internal name of RailWorks (although personally I wish that both were called RailWorks, with TSW being RailWorks 2).
I agree a different name for one of these games is a good idea. People are coming in to the Train Simulation and getting the two games confused You can see this on the forums where somebody asks a question on the TS forum for TSW - & v.v Maybe a revert to Railworks for Train Simulator, it still sits in the Railworks folder on the computer, or a different name for TSW Peter
I would love for it to be Railworks again. We're at Railworks 12 now for TS2021 if I remember correctly.
Or why not just rename the shortcut as "Railworks"? Its simple enough if you have both games. I uninstalled TSW ages ago as it never worked for me and personally I like the name "Train Simulator" better.
If you read the first post the reason for the renaming is to tell the two games apart - mainly because TSW/TSW2 players think this is the Forum for their problems
If you had been on here a bit longer you would have seen the posts asking how you did something in TSW. These are a few of them https://forums.dovetailgames.com/threads/gwr-services.20356/ https://forums.dovetailgames.com/threads/tsw-2020-msb-all-in-order-trophy.20285/ https://forums.dovetailgames.com/th...rio-drag-line-on-great-western-express.23369/ https://forums.dovetailgames.com/threads/west-somerset.20643/ https://forums.dovetailgames.com/threads/atc-long-island-route.27309/ https://forums.dovetailgames.com/threads/xbox-to-xbox-gamepass-pc.21179/ Since they dropped the 2020 from TSW the number of wrong posts seems to have dropped Peter
I did not say I had a better Opinion than yours I was agreeing with other posters and pointing out why it was suggested. Peter
Point taken mate. Infact maybe DTG should have kept the Railworks title and just made it simple as RW2012, RW2013 etc to the RW2021? I was tired when I wrote the last post mate. So my apologies for not being clear of what I was trying to say .
A cynic might suggest changing the name to Bugs2021 but that would cause the same confusion between TS and TSW.
Well there is games like Taxi Simulator and Thief Simulator about on Steam. So that could make a new game in its own right mate .
Apparently even if you rename it to Railworks, people would still post in the wrong forum, as apparently people are posting TSW stuff in the Fishing forums..... https://forums.dovetailgames.com/th...hing-section-of-the-forums.28134/#post-187323
Posting in the wrong forum is always going to happen, it's a part of life. Just correct the person and move on, hopefully they won't do it again. Who's looking forward to TSW 2, 2022 edition? I really hope they can sort out a better naming convention by then!
I like the name RailWorks a little better as well. I joined late 2014 so no memories, it's simply a good distinction and practical. Even some websites use it, such as RWA. Train Simulator is nice but it's also a bit egotastic like Office. Implying this is the de facto market standard. Heck, from DTG's standpoint, if you search for a train simulator, it probably brings this up and probably they want TSW more in your face, being newer and shinier. Although changing it might bring up Trainz. Tough.
