[resolved] Does Buying The Special Edition Of Tsw5 Unlock The Existing Routes For Tsw4?

Hello! I have TSW4 on Steam and would like to play the London Overground Suffragette Line. I noticed it's part of the TSW5 Special Edition and I know the game is backwards compatible so all my previous purchases will move forward. But does anyone have any experience buying the newer version dlc and playing it on the older version of TSW? So if I buy the Special edition of TSW5 will the suffragette line unlock for TSWS4 so I can play it today or can I only play it in TSW5+?

Just get the free version of TSW5 on 17th September, and ALL of your previous TSW4 content will carry over.

You do not need to pay anything to upgrade to TSW5.

Content specifically released for TSW5 in future cannot be played on TSW4.

 

Don’t forget you get to get 5 days early access as well. Not to long for the early access.

 

Addressing the base case - entitlements seem to flow backward from my experience. I've bought content through the TSW4 Steam store page that existed in TSW3 (which I also own), and I can see on Steam that I have entitlements for both (not that I'd play the TSW3 version).

However - since TSW5 isn't yet live, it's difficult to know without someone trying it (or Support confirming) whether the entitlement linking for TSW pre-5 content is already up, or whether you'd have to wait for 12th Sept (early access date).

On Epic, DLCs purchased through editions of TSW5 will be immediately available on TSW4. EGS began installing the new DLC before I even think about that. Not sure what happens on Steam but it should work, but steamdb shows that its not yet (notice that the TSW5 one is not here).

 

I just tested it out on the Steam store and unfortunately if you buy TSW5 content it doesn't retroactively unlock for TSW4. Major bummer.

 

When I pre-ordered the TSW3 Deluxe version which included Spirit of Steam it automatically gave me the route for TSW2, although I couldn't actually download the TSW2 version of SoS until the launch date of TSW3 (the PlayStation showed both the TSW3 and TSW2 versions of SoS as being a pre-order with a countdown clock).

 

I've specifically always made a point of finding the listings for the TSW2 versions of older routes to buy them for this reason.

 

I thought the "compatible" tag worked in both directions. If so, does that mean that TSW4 content will be flagged as "compatible" once TSW5 releases and TSW4 becomes the previous version? I don't remember how that worked last year.

 

Yes. Here is an example: The TSW 5 version of Vorarlberg has the TSW compatible sticker.
Btw, the TSW4 version is selling for 34.99€, the TSW 5 version is selling for 35.99€.
