Hello! I want to purchase TSW 5 on Steam, but a question has arisen. I already have several DLCs that are included in the Deluxe & Special Edition, in particular:
    1. Cajon Pass included in Deluxe (https://store.steampowered.com/app/...ajon_Pass_Barstow__San_Bernardino_Route_AddOn/);
    2. Kassel - Würzburg included in Deluxe & Special (https://store.steampowered.com/app/...hnellfahrstrecke_Kassel__Wurzburg_Route_AddOn/).
Of course I can purchase the Standard Edition, but in that case I won't be able to get new trains from Deluxe Bundle that I'm interested in. Does it make sense to wait for the release and buy then? Steam usually gives discounts based on content already available.

  2. I think the simplest answer is to sit down with a calculator and a piece of paper and work it out. Obviously the core is free for TSW5, and so it might be that picking that up and then any outstanding DLC that you might want might work out cheaper, but theres only one way to check and thats to work it out yourself as then youll own the answer.

1: Grab the free core update, then wait for the routes you really want to go on offer and pick them up separately.
2: Get Deluxe on the 10% pre-order offer and add more routes in the future.

Buying routes and trains separately is of course more expensive and less profitable.
Are they planning to add new routes for free for Deluxe owners?

  5. Not always, when compared to a bundle which contains routes or trains that are already owned, or which are not desired. The increased flexibility of being able to purchase items separately is to be welcomed, but it does require some assessment on the part of the consumer as to its relevance for them personally.

Not always. I don't think I've ever seen this for the TSW yearly editions.

For example, last summer sale I bought the TSW4 Deluxe Edition, even though I already owned the Standard Edition. I wanted the two locos. But I paid the same price as someone who didn't own TSW4 Standard Edition yet. Didn't get an extra discount for owned content, but the bundle was still cheaper than buying the locos seperatedly.

If you really want it, then the Deluxe version probably the best value. £20 more than Standard but two train DLC which will sell separately full RRP for £28. Cajon included of course adds nothing to the package as most people own it already from TSW3 so a bit of a false item to include, using the justification it will be handy for route hopping.

Most likely, I will wait for the release, or buy a SE.
I bought SE in June at a big discount, but at that time I did not own any content. Basically, now I can sacrifice 1 route and buy a SE, because it won't be cheaper in the near future anyway.
Yes yes, I think so, too. Thank you, dear!

Might be a small discount during winter sale, but a much bigger discount during summer sale. It requires some patience, but you can get most TSW content fairly cheap when waiting for discounts.

Personally I'm gonna grab the free edition when it's available, and probably buy the deluxe edition during a nice sale event (probably summer sale 2025, shortly before TSW6 is announced  )

There’s also that train fest or whatever they call it that tends to run around February.

Haha, tricky move, I did that with TSW 4.
This year's fest (train/air/auto) will start on the 16th of September on Steam.

Dovetail is usually deliberately setting up bundles so that they do not give discount on owned content. If there is a bundle of three routes with 20% discount and you already have one, the price of the bundle will not be lowered and you will still have to pay as for all three.

That's not entirely true, though. Yearly core bundles, which include the game itself, do not give discount, if you own something. That's true.

But regular bundles do, at least every bundle I've ever bought for TSW didn't force me to buy anything again, and still gave me a bundle discount.
    For example:

I don't know, maybe newer bundles are set up differently, I haven't checked, but old bundles didn't include owned content.

No, its just pre-order bundles, so they don't take into account existing content. It's like you buy a TSW 5, and you get the rest "as a gift.". I bought bundles several times and the discount for the available DLC was taken into account there.
    Confirm!

This is the dilemma that most of us all share right now (owning content already in included in the TSW editions). I can only advise you to follow your gut instinct here, decide what edition is worth it and see if you save any money.
For me the deluxe is the best option since if I buy the Avanti and the Flix separately it will cost me more in the long run.

As a result, I bought the Deluxe, it's the best option for me, too.

No everyone who has TSW3 has Cajon Pass. I played it on Game Pass at first but bought BCC which came as an optional package with the base game for no extra cost so as soon as TSW3 came off of Game Pass, I kept the game but lost Cajon Pass (and Kassel-Wurzburg). I kept the SEHS extension as I already owned that route. I wasn’t too bothered as I’m not really into American freight and I found the German route boring. However, I’m pleased to get it back now as it is a nice route scenery wise.

The price of the deluxe is about the same price as 2 routes and the Pendolino.

So if you own Cajon Pass already and want the 3 routes and 2 locos you are basically getting 1 route and the Flixtrain for free still.

If you only want 1 route and the Pedolino it is about the same price as buying the Standard Edition. So if you don't want 2 of the routes i recommend you just buy 1 route and the 1 loco.

But the deluxe version is still worth it if you only want 2 routes and 1 train.
