So I've been perusing the TSW5 FAQ, specifically about having to download our already-owned content. Fair enough. No problem. But what caught my attention was the statements regarding that TSW(s) do not share files - which is why you have to re-download everything.

So my question is, on my PS5, why does it often download prior version content? I own (but do not have installed) TSW2 and 3. And even with none installed, my PS will routinely download TSW 2 and 3 content. Note that when I purchase any content, I always select "PS5 Version Only."

I've deleted this TSW 2-3 content before, and it always puts it back.

So moreover than just "Why does it do that?" I'm more wanting to know "How can I make it stop?" If those files for TSW 2-3 are NOT being used by my current TSW4, then how can I make it stop downloading it and just taking up space? With the understanding that I do not want TSW 5 to be downloading TSW 2-3-4 content if it is not being used.

NOTE: If the answer is simply that the PS "notes" that it was prior version content, but internally it IS being used for the current version, then that's fine. I just wish it was more clear, but OK. Because TSW takes up a LOT of space on my PS (and grows), so trying to conserve where I can hehe.

    Thanks

Just wanting to add that I have Googled this subject and the best advice I could find was that you could go into the Content manager of the game and uncheck the non-PS5 content and it would no longer be downloaded.

However, when I check my TSW4 Game Content - all that is listed is PS5 content. I've spot-checked a couple titles, and the file size matches the DLC for PS5 and not the ones I have for PS4. So ... according to the game, the only DLC "registered" for TSW4 is exactly that - PS5 content.

But in the past, when I have deleted any PS4 DLC, the PS5 re-downloads them.

It's like the PS5 sees that I want TSW4 content downloaded, sees an update to DLC I have, sees that it comes in multiple flavors (TSW2-3-4), sees that I own previous versions, so downloads them. All.

Updating, as TSW5 just started pre-loading, and the PS5 is doing it again.

Yesterday I deleted TSW4 as well as ALL DLC, including PS4 content from TSW2, 3, 4. The wasted space on PS4 DLC alone was 140gb!)

I have my PS set to only download PS5 content. And as far as the core game goes, that seems to work well. But for DLC ... If it sees a PS5 and PS4 version, it downloads both. If I delete the PS4 DLC, it re-downloads it!

How can I make this stop? I don't want to have another 140gb (and growing over time) of wasted space!

Select the game itself in the home screen and press options, then go to Manage Content. Here you can download any DLC only for that particular version and PS5 only.

    Hi rsdovegames#2381 .

Unfortunately, this is an annoying quirk of the PlayStation Store. Due to the way entitlements work on the PlayStation Store, each store page has multiple entitlements associated with it. We provide the player with both the PS4 and PS5 version, plus all previous iterations of that add-on.

Few games do this. Most will charge you for the PS5 upgrade, and I can't think of another example that lets you use your add-ons across multiple iterations of a game.

The PlayStation Store is not set up to grant those entitlements after purchase, so they need to be in the bundle from the start. Which is why clicking on download from the store page will start multiple downloads.

However, as DigiTMCN suggested, you only need to use the store page once, to claim the entitlement. After that, you can manage your add-ons, using the instructions found here: How to Manage Your Games & Add-ons on PlayStation 5

Ah ... I think I get it now.

In the past, I have deleted the PS4 DLC content and the playstation dutifully put it back. But if I understand correctly, in that case, I should have deleted ALL the DLC (ps4+5), and then just gone to the Manage Content to bring back just the ps5 DLC?

Just for my own clarity and to try to cement it into my brain...

So it doesn't matter how it was purchased - it matters ... "how" it was downloaded? If downloaded from the Store, then the store will give you everything (and continue doing so even if you delete what you don't want lol). But if downloaded via the Content Manager, it will only download the specific thing you ask for?

I haven't downloaded any of my previous content for TSW5 yet. Am waiting on the final release ... just because, really hehe. So I'll be able to test this.

Thank you both for the responses. This has been driving me crazy just from how bizarre it was. :)

Yes, Manage Game Content would be the best way to manage your add-ons. You only need the PlayStation Store if you are buying something, or upgrading an add-on from a previous game.

Please be aware that compatible content won't be available for TSW 5 until the release date. You can find a release schedule here: How To Download Tsw 5 & Compatible Content

It sounds like the PS5 is mismanaging your DLC by recognizing ownership of older versions and downloading them unnecessarily. Even if your TSW4 content is correctly registered as PS5, this might be causing conflicts. Deleting PS4 DLC might trigger re-downloads due to linked ownership. Checking for updates or contacting support may clarify this behavior.
