If you install TSW 5 on gampass will that automatically claim the free upgrade? Or do you claim the free upgrade first then install the gamepass routes? My concern is if I just install it on gamepass and then it leaves GP in 6 months, would I then have to pay because I missed the 30day free window to claim it? Or will it automatically claim it when I get it on GP?
I have Xbox on PC with game pass. Guessing it will be the same in the Xbox console. My experience so far is that when you have games with several editions in the store (lets use 4 as an example) you get a text just above the install button that says "1 of 4 editions". If you click that text, it will show you all the versions of the game (for TSW it should be Starter Pack, Standard, Deluxe, Special Edition). I think what you will need to do is make sure at some point before october 17th you claim, buy for 0€ or whatever it says in the Starter Pack edition of TSW5. Right now Sea of Thieves, for example, is in Game Pass and has 3 editions. You can check if there are those kind of options for you. Of course do not buy anything, just check that what I told you looks the same for you in the Xbox console and you can see the different editions.
So the version on gamepass will be the standard edition so you will get the 3 new routes and the base game the free starter pack you will have to claim alongside the gamepass version besides its free so what's to lose by claiming it anyway, It you then either leave game pass or tsw does you still have your base game but would still need to re purchase the new routes as they ar not included in the free starter pack. Hope that makes sense.
This procedure should work perfectly fine. Look for the starter pack in the Xbox Store first, claim it, then afterwards continue with the gamepass edition as you wish- there's more than enough to download then anyway The only thing that could possibly go wrong there would be when some store licensing issues would come into place - but since DTG are quite used to fiddle around with the many editions and the only issues that came up were usually with disc versions I doubt that.
Thats what I figured claim it first the download the gamepass. Thanks, it would suck not to claim it and have it leave GP. Mind you there is usually a big % off when a game leaves GP.
Yes, I'd claim both - I'll try to get some clarity on this, but I would assume, knowing how the stores work, that the Game Pass version wouldn't automatically claim the Starter Pack.
In my experience, it does not matter if you have a game installed using game pass or not. If you do not own the game (in this case the Starter Pack) you get the option to buy it or claim it. In any case, the best way to make sure you dont forget to claim the Starter Pack is doing it first as you suggest. Just saying this so nobody panics if they forget to claim the Starter Pack before installing Standard using Game Pass.
Maybe its helpful to create a whole post about this topic and i have seen many question by people how they can carry over their profile on a console. The problem is the lag of storage and what they can do the best.
