[resolved] Tsw5 Gamepass - A Couple Of Questions

Right, so after watching the stream and gathering my thoughts I have made the decision that I will not be buying TSW5 on release for the PC, or Xbox as WCML just isn't up to scratch for me at the minute. But then I remembered I have the Gamepass thing on Xbox and so I just have a couple of questions for how it works as I have never used it for TSW before and I'll be able to try it on there first.
Sorry they are probably simple questions which seem obvious but I just want to double check.

• If I instal it on gamepass does this mean my previous collection will carry over along with the current profile?
• When it expires on gamepass and I decide to buy it, how does this process work, will it have to be reinstalled or different things done?
• Will it allow me to buy and instal TSW5 DLC (e.g WCML proper from JT) and keep this into the future even though I don't technically own the base game of TSW5?
• Should I claim the free version first and then do the Gamepass version, or will this not work?

Once again sorry, I sound like a right fool, and, if I am honest, when it comes to things like this it is a rather fair description!

If you upgrade to TSW5 between launch on 17 Sept and early Oct it is free.

 

1. Yes, the game will work as if you own it and your DLCs will carry over from TSW4 as normal.

2. When Gamepass expires, the game will remain installed, you just won't be able to use it until you buy the game or renew your Gamepass subscription, then you can continue using it as normal.

3. Yes.

4. I would claim the free version first, just to be sure that is registered to your account, before installing the Gamepass version of TSW5.

Thanks for the answers as well, especially so late in the day. On the xbox I have had all versions from TSW2020 through to 4 installed and I believe it has been the same profile throughout. Not so worried with the profile, just as long as everything I own comes across to 5. Thanks for checking that last one as well mate.

 

Just be aware that the game is included with Gamepass ULTIMATE.

Recently Microsoft renamed their base Xbox Live Gold subsciption to "Gamepass Core". If all you have is Gamepass Core, from my understanding, you don't get any of the Gamepass library which makes things more confusing.

 

Ah right, I am honestly not sure, and not at home tonight to check. I can download games with it though, currently FH4, FIFA24 and City Skyline, but tend to change things up.

 

The way I understand it is that if you claim the free version by October 17, it is yours to keep. Therefore, regardless of whether or not you use the Game Pass version, you will be able to use your existing library and any future purchases on TSW5. if your Game Pass subscription lapses or TSW5 comes off of Game Pass, you will lose the routes that come with Standard Edition (unless you have bought any of them standalone) but your ownership of the base game continues.

In fact when you install the game (I have just pre-ordered - sorry!), the game icon on the Games and Apps screen shows it as “Train Sim World 5: Free Starter Pack” (annoying but there you go) even though I have bought a paid version so I would assume it will do the same if you install it from Game Pass.

My advice would be to claim the free starter pack first before installing TSW5 from Game Pass to ensure you retain it after it is no longer available to you on GP.
