Did you pass over an AWS bolus? IOW, was there a signal 200 yards on?

I think that alarm signals that a train is moving - so everyone knows to look out for it.

Yes this is for safety reasons. Either to remind of moving trains, maybe 3rd rail on power too. There were bad accidents because power lines not shut down in depots (not related to ashford).

Also if you look at the ashford walkways below the train, you can technically get crushed. so if a staff is still below the train, the alarm is a good reminder to pay attention.

This actually sounds like a nice little detail they’ve put in. I’ll have to check that out.

Was it like a siren? Basically, (at Lovers Walk depot as a key example) when the DP sets up a move in or out of the shed, the road has blue flashing lights and sirens sounding to indicate that the road is open to traffic movements. This could have been what you heard

I remember back in my SW&W and ATW Control days visiting Canton a few times and there was a depot protection system in operation. Whenever a movement was being made, an alarm and flashing lights would operate.
