Sorry if this has been discussed in another thread somewhere. It is a hard topic to search. I'm sure I'm not the only one to notice that there are times during scenarios & time tabled services, when switching / shunting the stop point to reverse direction is ridiculously far from the points. In many cases hundreds of yards / meters from the points. Has there ever been an explanation as to why this occurs? It does not happen on all of the time. Some of the times when you reverse direction the stop is exactly where one would expect it, and where real railroaders would stop, clear of the points. I can imagine that it could be that developers did not know how long the train would be when they coded the stop point, and they never get corrected before (or after) release. That would be another small ding on quality control, but at least I can understand that. Making the player go all of that extra distance just for things to take longer would be an even less acceptable reason to do it. I hope that isn't the reason for this. If anyone knows or has any suggestions on why this time waster is in the game, feel free to comment. Thanks
My take on why this happens is that when you are dealing with the AI dispatcher controlled switches, you have to move past a point where the AI realizes that you are beyond the switch, which happens to be a signal, and then moves it to the correct direction. This is very evident when playing certain scenarios in CRR.
