Relive the glory days of the west country when diesel hydraulic and diesel electrics ruled the rails. The Route: The Rivera Line is a 28 and a half mile long route that runs between Exeter St Davids and Paignton. The South Devon Main Line is a route that runs between Exeter St Davids and Plymouth Stations: Rivera Line: Exeter St Davids, Exeter St Thomas, Starcross, Dawlish Warren, Dawlish, Teignmouth, Newton, Torre, Torquay, Paignton South Devon Main Line: Exeter St Davids, Exeter St Thomas, Starcross, Dawlish Warren, Dawlish, Teignmouth, Newton Abbot, Totnes, Ivybridge, Plymouth Rolling Stock: BR class 50 'Hoover' (BR blue), BR class 52 'Western' (BR blue and Maroon), BR class 42 and class 43 'Warship' (BR blue, Green and maroon), BR class 35 'Hymek' (BR green and BR blue), BR class 115 (BR blue and grey), Paxman valenta HST (BR blue and grey), Mk 1 TSO (BR blue and grey), Mk 1 FK (BR blue and grey), Mk 1 BG (BR blue and grey), BR GUV (BR newspaper blue), Mk 2a, b, c , f Layers: The LMS jubilee (LPC) can be layered onto a railtour from Exeter to Paignton The class 47 (NTP) can be layered onto express passenger services and tanker trains, Class 45 (NTP) can be layered on to cross-country services from Exeter and tanker services, Class 40 (HFP) can be layered onto passenger and freight services, Class 37 (TVL and WCL) can be layered onto freight services on the heathfield branch, Class 31 (TVL) can be layered onto passenger and freight services, Class 101 (GWE,NTP or TVL) can be layered onto slow commuter services Scenarios: Hammering Hoover: (Difficulty level 3) Drive a class 50 from Plymouth to Exeter calling at Newton Abbot in hammering rain. Multiple Working (Difficulty level 2) Drive a class 115 stopping train formed of 3 units. Drive this from Paignton to Exeter St Davids calling at all stations except Dawlish Warren. Hydraulic madness: (Difficulty level 5) A class 42 has failed so another class 42 has been called to help however it has also failed so you have been tasked with driving a class 52 to help. Providing you follow the speed limit, you need to make sure this very late running service does not break down and that it gets to Plymouth in time. Happy Holidays: (Difficulty level 2) Drive two class 50s (pulling mk 2)from lairia depot to Plymouth and then drive this holiday special to Exeter Pottering Paxman (Difficulty level 3) This Paxman Valenta engined HST is held at a red signal outside of Totnes. Contact the Signaller to proceed through. Drive this service to Exeter. Nuisance Newspaper (Difficulty level 3) Drive this class 35 pulling a parcels service from lairia depot to Newton Abbot. However one of the doors on the newspaper wagons is not shutting meaning there is a chance that the newspapers will fall out. This means that you will have to drive on a 25mph speed limit. Additional notes: Should West Cornwall be extended to Plymouth, you could drive services from Penzance to Exeter without having to do two part services.
Anything with the shortlived diesel hydraulic types is something I would buy right now. If you went back to the 1960s, it would be possible to include the long scrapped Class 22 Baby Warship and Class 41 A1A-A1A Warship types that so far are not (to my knowledge) included in any of the train sim games. A superb suggestion. I would love to see representations of classes with no current survivors.
I love these sorts of suggestions: While obviously not it sometimes seems like there trying to cause something which I find hilarious: Like the riveria line without a pacer would really anger people.
The pacer was not built on the 1970's so it would be highly inacurate to have it in a route that is set in the 70's
Very good suggestion have good holiday memories of this route in this period and BR blue does need a comeback in 2023.
It may be just me but one this route is short only being around 40 miles and two being set in the wrong period. Firstly I'm saying wrong period as you had lots of stations and such cut from the lines after beeching plus its ready been done In a similar way with train sim. What I think should be done is instead of it being in the 70s make it early 60s (1962) and include steam and dieseil operations on the route plus dtg have a rare opportunity. They can include the Dartmouth railway (before preservation) (paington to kingswear) and the avocet line (exeter to exmouth) which would only add 26 more miles plus a 14xx making the route 62 in length.
To be honest the 60's would be beter as it would feature long lost diesel hydraulic locomotives that had been scrapped by the 1970's
