I Mostly see quite a lot of negativity about Rivet Games products on here, however I have to admit I really can enjoy their products. Today I bought Bernina Line and I noticed directly how smooth this route runs, even on Xbox Series S. I didn't notice the stutters, many other routes do have and also the frame rate seems to be stable. My other 2 Rivet Games routes, S-Bahn Zentralschweiz and Island Line 2022 also running well. Besides this, the routes are quite unique and for me personally, more Swiss routes are very welcome. On S-bahn Zentralschweiz I found quite some bugs, not game braking but annoying. So better quality control and big fixing will appreciated, however DTG routes are also not bug free and bugs are also not solved after years. It looks like Rivet Games is now more focusing on UK routes (helping DTG with their routes) and UK trains, but I really hope they will continue making unique own routes. How are your opinions about River Games and do you want them to make more unique routes?
Rivet historically were historically one of the worst third parties for quality in mine and a lot of others view... But I have to admit, they seem to have had a change in direction recently. Something has been going on behind the scenes which seems to have improved the trajectory the company is heading in, and for the better. Riveria Line, the Class 170 pack for BCC, and the upcoming 171 + 377/3 DLC packs seem to be of a good overall quality (the latter of which is still in development, but looks like it heading in the right direction). I did feel Rivet was a bit of a hopeless and lost cause who were incapable of improving bugs in their DLC, listening to feedback in a productive way, and were overall a poor quality DLC content creator. But, I have to hand it to them, they seem to be improving quite drastically. It's to early to be praising them completely, but if they continue on the path they are going there is some hope they'll be able to transform their image in the communities eyes. And with Tyler onboard we may get some hope of backdated products being improved. So credit where credit is due to Rivet, they are getting much better. (Something I didn't think would ever come out of my mouth a year back!).
Well when you get to the Hot Wheels scenario on Bernina you might find it gets stuck and the objectives didn’t advance.
At least Rivet Games has some nice ideas for routes and trains and are trying to do something different then DTG. Train announcement for example was already done by Rivet Games with the Bernina Line, I'm not sure if there where any routes before also having announcements. If they can improve the quality of their products and fix existing bugs, I'm sure more people will appreciate their products and willing to buy them. I hope they will continue with making their own routes too and not only contracted work for DTG. Also it seems, Rivet somehow can manage to get better performance on routes then DTG can, The Rivet routes are for me the most smooth running ones.
I agree about the Bernina Line being great route honestly I don’t regret paying full price for it (despite what some pc players might say about wasting money, I wasn’t exactly going to wait another 2 years for one Xbox sale for this route) I also love the Fife circle line, db br 204, west Cornwall local despite its flaws (mainly just love the rail freight class 37, the headlights are just so much nicer then the Tess valley one)
I think Rivet are improving especially with Tyler and the timetables. Looking forward to seeing what's done with ECW definitely. I like that they're going back to old content and not doing their own at the moment too. I think it's a little more in their remit. I think you just have to be careful with Rivet because they need a good release imo to have a good product as post-release support just hasn't been there with Rivet historically. They put one maybe two updates out and do something else.
On Xbox, 3rd party products are (almost) never on sale, so I bought Bernina at full price. I'm also interested in Five Circle Line, so this one you can also recommend? Five Circle looks scenic to me, I always like routes with a view.
A very marmite company. It's good to see there's some movement towards getting better. But I really want to see them revisit and fix their Scottish routes. Still lots to sort.
It really depends if you like that part of Scotland, like the coastal side is really nice and then the in land bit is a bit more like rivers style so it’s not as good. Still waiting for a good timetable via the class 158 so I would probably wait if I was you until the new timetable is out (which might be soon)
Thanks for the advice. I saw I also need ScotRail Express for the 385 layer, but I'm not sure I will buy both without being on sale.
I wouldn’t recommend scotrail express without a sale, it’s slightly lower quality than Fife circle for scenery, the 385 is just terrible and really inaccurate so I would wait like me for a sale (I’m really annoyed I skipped a sale for 50% of this route during tsw 4, that was genuinely the last time in when on sale)
I hope now Rivet are beginning to get their head screwed on that they'll finally revisit the Class 385 to improve the sound and ScotRail Express to give it a overhaul... With the Inter7City coming out at some point it'll be on both E2G and FCL routes, so surely it would make sense to entice players back by improving Glasgow to Edinburgh?
I know the feeling about skipping a sale and regretting it afterwards. I not like the layering system at all, buying a route only for a specific train to layer on....
Yeah but I can’t complain too much I did get tsw 4 deluxe edition for like 70 to 80% off, this was sadly before I had college payments or I would got both
The only Rivet DLC I don't at all like is WCL (can't judge Bernina and IOW2022 as I don't own the former and haven't touched the latter) - don't think I really need to explain why. Fife Circle brought one of my favourite trains (although admittedly I haven't played it much - may do so more often if the 158 timetable finally comes, and Riviera is turning out to be a favourite route.
Rivet are ok with locomotive designing, it’s their routes that are problematic. They are more fantasy like than actual. There is so much missing scenery or the wrong buildings etc., where other designers like Just Trains ATS and more recently All Aboard Studios have spent time to the attention to detail to get the scenery accurately. Sadly Rivet do not give attention to detail as clearly shown up in WCL, and inspite of all the criticism they have consistently received they aren’t even bothered to correct it. WCL was released about four years ago and it’s still in the sorry state it was when released apart from Truro Cathedral which was corrected possibly by DTG, but the rest of the horrendously inaccurate scenery has never been corrected in WCL and other routes and the community will not forgive them until they do. WCL is only worth buying at 80% off.
Their 3D modelling may be good but their sounds and physics certainly aren't! The Ge4/4 on Albula still lurches forward like a greyhound on steroids and the shopping cart sounds on the rolling stock never got fixed. The 484 on IOW2022 sounds nothing like an electric train and overtones of it can be heard on the Bernina Allegra. Despite several attempts the 150 doesn't sound right - even with the almost identical excellent Class 153 sound set to hand. AFAIK the Fife Circle 170 is still waiting decent (maybe any) track running sounds. And the 385 on Glasgow to Edinburgh is just a war zone when it comes to physics and audio. Sadly despite all the above and Rivet's unrepentant arrogance to rework the issues, DTG now seem to regard them as the go to for UK DLC production.
I was very upset when Rivet went dark. They released some very interesting content. I'm incredibly happy to see them return and have their involvement in recent releases legitimized. I secretly hope that Rivet will one day give us a remaster of Arosa in the new standards. Rivet, I wish you the best of luck in your development and look forward to new content from your team.
I see people commenting about incorrect buildings and sounds. Is Rivet so different on those aspects then DTG? Incorrect or re-used buildings are also a thing on DTG routes, so are wrong sounds (Talent 1 for example). On the physics side of things, Rivet looks somewhat worse, like it's more arcady compared to DTG.
With Rivet they are not at all accurate with the scenery but in a lot of cases important building scenery is completely missing.
If WCL wasn't needed for layers I wouldn't own it. That's pretty much all its good for nowadays. It was sort of alright at first, back when I hoped they'd fix at least some of the issues.
l cannot ever see Rivet doing a remaster of any of their failed routes as they are just not bothered that their work is unsatisfactory. It is what it is, buy or not buy should be their motto.
